Chapter 44: The First Peace

The moonlight spilled gently through the curtains, painting silver streaks across the floor.

Poornima stood by the window, lost in thought, her eyes glimmering with both relief and guilt. The cool night breeze brushed her face, but inside, her heart felt heavy — heavy with everything they had been through, and everything still left unsaid.

She didn’t hear his footsteps.

But she felt him — the warmth, the quiet strength, the familiar calm.

Veeresh came up behind her and wrapped his arms firmly around her waist, pulling her close into his chest.

For a moment, she froze. Then, slowly, she leaned back into his embrace — as if her body had been waiting for that comfort all along.

“Don’t think about anything,” he murmured softly against her ear.

His voice, usually cold and restrained, was gentle — real.

Her eyes fluttered shut as his breath touched her neck.

“Veeresh…” she whispered, voice trembling.

He turned her around, holding her by the shoulders, his gaze locked on hers.

“You know something?” he said quietly, his tone a mixture of pain and peace.

“You broke me once… but you healed me too.”

Poornima’s tears fell — not out of sorrow, but from the weight of finally being forgiven.

“I’m sorry,” she whispered.

Veeresh cupped her face, his thumb brushing away her tears. “You don’t have to say it anymore.”

For a long moment, they just looked at each other — no anger, no guilt, just two souls who had been through fire finally finding calm.

And then, as if pulled by something beyond words, Veeresh leaned in.

Their lips met — slow at first, then deeper, filled with everything they had both held back for years: pain, longing, love, forgiveness.

When they finally parted, Poornima rested her forehead against his chest, smiling through her tears.

For the first time, it wasn’t revenge. It wasn’t guilt.

It was love.
