Chapter 29: A Quiet Return to Faith

Poornima’s exams went well.

Not just on paper—but in the way she came home each day. Less exhausted. Less tense. Her shoulders no longer carried that constant weight. At night, there were no sudden awakenings, no silent tears in the dark.

She slept.

Peacefully.

Curled into Veeresh, her arms finding him without fear, without hesitation—just instinct. The nightmares no longer pulled her away from rest. Her breathing stayed steady till morning.

Veeresh noticed everything.

The way she smiled at him now—not forced, not guarded.
The way her eyes no longer held that sharp edge of anger.
The hatred that once lived between them had softened, slowly dissolving into something quieter.

Not forgiveness yet.

But acceptance of the present.

He felt it most in the little moments—when she handed him tea without thinking, when she asked about his day, when she laughed softly at something small. She was letting go, bit by bit.

And it filled his heart with a gratitude he couldn’t put into words.

One evening, as they sat together on the balcony watching the sky turn gold, Veeresh spoke.

“Poornima,” he said gently.

She looked at him.

“Let’s visit Dharmasthala,” he continued.
“Just you and me.”

She was silent for a moment.

The temple had always meant peace to her—faith, grounding, quiet strength. It wasn’t about rituals anymore. It was about surrendering what the heart could no longer carry alone.

She nodded.

“Okay,” she said softly.

Veeresh felt something loosen inside his chest.

That night, as she slept hugging him, Veeresh stared at the ceiling and thought—

Not to ask for forgiveness.
Not to undo the past.

But to say thank you.

For her survival.
For her strength.
For the second chance life had given both of them.

And as the night wrapped them in silence, Veeresh knew—this journey wasn’t about fixing what broke.

It was about walking forward, slowly, hand in hand, with faith lighting the way.
