Chapter 44: Ordinary Days, Extraordinary Love

The days that followed were calm—beautifully calm.

They went on evening walks in the park, fingers loosely intertwined, sometimes talking, sometimes just walking in silence. Poornima always slept hugging him now, her arm thrown over his chest like she belonged there. Veeresh loved that the most—waking up to her warmth, her quiet trust.

They watched TV together, arguing over channels, laughing at silly scenes. Sometimes, out of nowhere, he would lean in and kiss her cheek or her forehead, and she would pretend to be annoyed but smile anyway.

She started attending all his office parties with him. Veeresh felt proud introducing her—standing beside her, holding her hand. On weekends, he took her on long bike rides. She enjoyed the wind, the city lights, even though she scolded him constantly.

“Veeresh, why can’t you keep anything in the right place?”
“Because I know you’ll come and fix it,” he would reply with a grin.

One morning, Poornima woke up suddenly, hitting his chest lightly.

“You beast,” she said, half-angry, half-embarrassed.

Veeresh raised an eyebrow, clearly amused.
“Oh? Beast, ah?”

She glared at him.
“Shut up.”

He moved closer, teasing, “Harder, Veer?”

She picked up the pillow and hit him.
“Don’t talk nonsense!”

He burst out laughing and started tickling her.

“I will kill you if you tickle!” she shouted, laughing despite herself.

They rolled on the bed, laughing like children, the room filled with warmth and noise and life.

In those moments—
no past,
no fear,
no scars mattered.

They weren’t healing anymore.

They were living.
