Chapter 20 – When the World Fell Silent

I saw her walking toward me.

And in that moment, everything else faded.

The palace.
The fire.
The crown waiting behind me.

Only her remained.

My everything.

My childhood best friend.
My wife.
The only woman who had seen every shade of me—my rage, my silence, my failures, my darkness—and still stood by me without questions.

The only one who never feared me.
The only one who could slap me and still make me listen.
The only one who could tame a man the world called Lucifer.

She walked with calm grace, but I knew her heartbeat was loud. I could always feel her before I saw her. That had never changed.

When she reached the mandap, she sat beside me quietly.

Mine.

I leaned slightly toward her and pinched her waist—just enough to remind her I was here.

She didn’t even look at me.
“Behave,” she whispered.

I smiled.

Not the smile the world knew.
The one only she ever saw.

The priests began their chants, voices rising and falling in ancient rhythm. Sacred mantras filled the air, heavy with meaning, older than all of us. The royal drums thundered in slow, powerful beats, echoing through the palace walls like a heartbeat.

Dum…
Dum…
Dum…

Each beat sealed a promise I had already lived by for years.

I sat straight, sword beside me, fire before me, my queen at my side.

The world might see a king reclaiming his throne.

But I knew the truth.

I had already won the only battle that mattered—
because she was here.

And as the chants grew stronger, I didn’t need to look at her to know—

She was no longer just my destiny.

She was my choice.
