Chapter 32: Where She Finally Rested
They returned home quietly, the haveli wrapped in stillness.
Without speaking much, they went straight to their room—as if both of them knew this silence didn’t need words. Poornima changed out of her saree, folding it neatly, her movements calm. Veeresh changed too, slower than usual, his mind still lingering on the ride, the laughter, the way she had held him without fear.
When they lay down, Veeresh instinctively pulled her closer.
No questions.
No hesitation.
Just an arm around her, firm and protective, like he was anchoring her to the present.
Poornima rested her head against his chest and smiled softly.
In that quiet, his words came back to her—every one of them.
Even if I hurt you… even if I break you… I will be the one who mends you.
I’ll woo you. I’ll beg for your forgiveness.
Nobody comes between us.
Her heart felt full in a way that didn’t scare her.
She remembered the kiss they shared—not rushed, not demanding—filled with apology, promise, and need. She remembered how carefully he had tied the waist chain, like it meant something sacred. How gently he had kissed her there, as if reassuring her body as much as her heart. How he had knelt to fasten the payal, kissed her feet, and smiled when she laughed.
Those memories didn’t overwhelm her.
They comforted her.
Veeresh’s breathing grew steady as sleep claimed him, his arm tightening slightly around her in his unconsciousness, as if even sleep refused to let her go.
Poornima closed her eyes.
For the first time in a long time, she didn’t replay her past before sleeping.
She didn’t brace herself for fear.
She slept in his warmth—safe, held, and slowly learning that love didn’t always arrive gently…
Sometimes, it arrived patiently—and stayed.
