Chapter 30: Truth, Without Apology

Veeresh landed in London in the early morning.

Before the city fully woke up, he sent her a message.

Reached safely. I’ll call later. Thinking of you.

He didn’t wait for a reply. Some things didn’t need reassurance.

By evening, he stood outside a familiar house—quiet, unchanged, holding years of distance within its walls. He rang the bell.

Ridhima opened the door.

She looked surprised—but not shaken.

“Veeresh,” she said. “You’re early this time.”

He nodded. “I wanted to come directly.”

Inside, Kayan and Kavya were in the living room. Older now. Taller. More distant.

“Hi,” he said softly.

“Hi, Dad,” Kavya replied politely.

Kayan nodded. “You’re staying long?”

Veeresh sat down, folding his hands—not as a businessman, not as an ex-husband, but as a father who had come with purpose.

“I need to tell you something,” he said. “All of you.”

Ridhima sat across from him. Calm. Guarded.

“I’m not here to argue,” Veeresh continued. “Or to reopen old wounds.”

He took a breath. “I’ve met someone.”

Silence.

“Her name is Poornima,” he said clearly. “I love her.”

Kavya looked at him, searching his face. Kayan leaned back, unreadable.

Ridhima didn’t react immediately. Then she asked, “Is this why you’re here?”

“Yes,” Veeresh replied. “Because I don’t want secrets. I don’t want confusion. And I don’t want my children to hear things from others.”

He looked at Kayan and Kavya. “This doesn’t change how I feel about you. I know I haven’t always shown up the way I should have—but I want to. I want to build a real bond with you. Slowly. On your terms.”

Kavya spoke first. “Is she… the reason you and Mom—”

“No,” Veeresh said immediately. “That ended long ago. This is not an escape. It’s a choice.”

Ridhima finally spoke. “Is she married?”

“She’s a widow,” he said. “And a mother.”

Something shifted in Ridhima’s expression—not jealousy, but understanding.

“You’re serious,” she said.

“Yes,” he replied. “And I won’t lie to you—I’m scared. But I’m done pretending.”

Ridhima nodded slowly. “I always knew you’d love deeply. You just didn’t know how to stay.”

The words were honest, not cruel.

Kayan sighed. “If she makes you… calmer,” he said after a pause, “then okay.”

Kavya added quietly, “Just don’t disappear again.”

Veeresh’s chest tightened. “I won’t.”

He meant it.

That night, back in his hotel room, Veeresh finally called Poornima.

“It’s done,” he said softly. “I told them the truth.”

There was a pause on the other end.

“And?” she asked.

“They know,” he said. “About us. About my feelings. No lies.”

Her voice was gentle. “I’m proud of you.”

He closed his eyes, relief washing over him.

This time, love wasn’t built on avoidance.

It was built on truth.
