Chapter 35: A Quiet Yes

London felt softer that evening.

Veeresh took Poornima out, away from noise, away from explanations—just the two of them walking slowly, letting the city exist around them without asking anything in return. The air was cool, lights warm, and for once, his heart wasn’t racing.

“I’m happy,” Veeresh said suddenly, stopping.

She looked at him, searching his face, and before she could ask anything, he gently took her hand.

No speeches. No crowd.

He slid the ring onto her finger—simple, elegant, certain.

Poornima inhaled sharply, then smiled, her eyes shining.
“It’s beautiful,” she whispered.

Veeresh pulled her into a hug, holding her the way someone does when they’re grateful, not afraid.
“Thank you,” he said softly. “For choosing me.”

She rested her forehead against his chest. “I was scared,” she admitted. “But everything… everything went beautifully.”

He smiled, relief and joy settling together. “It did.”

They sat down on a nearby bench, close but unhurried. Veeresh wrapped an arm around her shoulders. Poornima leaned into him, resting her head on his shoulder, her hand still curled around his.

No promises spoken aloud.
No need.

Some yeses didn’t need words.
They just needed peace.

And that night, surrounded by quiet lights and shared breath, love didn’t feel like a beginning or an ending.

It felt like home.
