Chapter 36: When Certainty Meets Choice
The next morning was filled with soft goodbyes.
Hugs that lingered. Smiles that promised return. Words that didn’t rush the future but didn’t fear it either. Veeresh watched Poornima, Rudra, Ramir, and Mannat walk toward the departure gate, his heart full in a way it hadn’t been in years.
When they reached India, life welcomed them back gently.
Poornima took Veeresh to meet her father-in-law. The old man listened quietly, then smiled—warm, approving, unburdened by unnecessary questions.
“You both deserve happiness,” he said simply. “Live well.”
They had lunch together. Poornima cooked herself that day—her hands moving with familiarity, care, memory. When she served biriyani, Veeresh’s eyes lit up without shame.
Rudra shook his head dramatically. “Dada, you are obsessed with biriyani.”
Veeresh laughed, enjoying every bite, every sound around him. This time, the food tasted different—like belonging.
Later, when the house had settled into a comfortable calm, Veeresh spoke softly.
“Move in with me,” he said, not demanding, not urgent. “Only if you want to. It’s your wish. I just wanted to ask.”
Poornima looked at him, surprised—not by the question, but by the patience in it.
“I’ll think about it,” she said honestly.
“Thank you,” he replied, equally honest.
He kissed her cheek, then a gentle peck on her lips—careful, reassuring.
“If you move in with me,” he added quietly, “it won’t be as someone adjusting.”
He looked straight into her eyes.
“It will be as my wife.”
Poornima froze for a moment—shock, emotion, certainty colliding. Then she smiled, slow and full, a smile that held both past and future.
And Veeresh knew.
Some decisions don’t need pressure.
They only need time to arrive at the truth they already carry.
