Chapter 71 — When He Whispered My Name
A miracle happened.
It was almost imperceptible at first—so soft that Poornima thought her heart was playing tricks on her, born out of exhaustion and longing.
But then she heard it.
“Poons…”
Her breath caught in her throat.
She froze, her entire body turning numb as she stared at Veeresh’s face. His lips trembled slightly, dry and pale, but they moved again—just enough.
“Poons…”
Poornima broke.
She rushed forward, carefully but urgently, wrapping her arms around him, pressing her forehead against his chest as tears poured freely. This time they weren’t of fear—they were of relief so overwhelming it hurt.
“I’m here,” she sobbed. “I’m here, Veer… I never left.”
His fingers moved weakly, finding her arm, grounding her. With all the strength he had, he lifted his hand and kissed her forehead—slow, deliberate, as if sealing a promise.
She helped him sit up properly, adjusting the pillows, her hands shaking but sure. He looked at her—really looked at her—and despite the tubes, the weakness, the pain, his eyes held only love.
“I’m sorry,” he whispered hoarsely.
She shook her head instantly, tears still streaming.
“Don’t,” she said firmly. “Please don’t. I’m just happy. That’s all.”
He lifted his hand again and placed it gently on her belly, his palm warm despite everything.
“Our baby…” he murmured, a faint smile touching his lips.
“Yes,” she said softly, placing her hand over his. “We’re both here.”
That was all it took.
The children rushed forward the moment they realized what was happening.
“Dada!” Rudra exclaimed, his voice breaking as he hugged Veeresh carefully.
Mannat held his shoulder, crying openly now.
“We love you. Don’t scare us like that again.”
Ramir laughed through tears.
“You’re not allowed to leave, okay? We decided.”
Kayan and Kavya hugged him from the other side, their small hands gripping him tightly.
“Love you, dada,” they said together.
Veeresh closed his eyes for a moment, overwhelmed—not by pain, not by weakness—but by love so immense it filled every broken part of him.
He opened his eyes again and looked at Poornima.
She was smiling through tears.
And in that moment, surrounded by his family, his children, his wife, and the life growing beneath her heart—Veeresh knew he had truly come back.
