Chapter 14: The Choice She Thought Was Hers
Poornima finished her last class with a knot in her chest that refused to loosen.
She found him near the parking area, exactly where she knew he would be—hands in his pockets, posture closed, gaze distant. He hadn’t looked back even once, yet she felt certain he knew she was there.
“Veer,” she said softly.
He didn’t turn.
“I’m sorry,” she continued, the words rushing now. “I didn’t mean to upset you. I’ll come with you. I’ll stay at your penthouse.”
That made him look at her.
Slowly.
Carefully.
“Don’t lie to me,” Veeresh said, voice calm but sharp. “I know you’re not willing.”
The certainty in his tone shook her. Panic fluttered in her chest—fear of losing him, of disappointing him, of standing alone again. Before she could overthink it, she stepped forward and kissed him.
Not desperate. Not rushed.
Certain.
“I will,” she said quietly against his cheek. “I want to.”
For a moment, he studied her—searching, weighing, deciding. Then his hand closed around her waist, firm and possessive, pulling her into him.
“Good,” he murmured. “You’re mine.”
The words settled over her like a vow instead of a warning.
They left together without another word. The car ride passed in heavy silence, his presence filling the space, her thoughts circling the same reassurance over and over—this is fine, this is my choice, this is love.
She didn’t see the city lights blur past. She didn’t notice how tightly her fingers curled into her bag.
She didn’t know that something irreversible had already begun.
Veeresh drove with steady focus, expression unreadable, satisfaction quiet and absolute. He didn’t need to rush anymore.
She had come on her own.
And that was the cruelest victory of all.
As the penthouse lights came into view, Poornima’s heart raced—not with fear, but with the fragile belief that she was stepping into something real.
She had no idea that when the doors closed behind them, everything she knew—about love, control, and herself—would change forever.
And this time, there would be no easy way back.
