Chapter Name: Agni Saakshi, Eternal Oath

The air at Trijuginarayan Temple was still, ancient, and alive—
the sacred fire burned on, just as it had for ages, a silent witness to vows made and never broken.

Poornima and Veeresh sat before the Akhand Dhuni, the eternal flame that had seen gods become spouses.

The priest’s voice rose and fell with the mantras, each syllable settling into the mountains, into their hearts. Garlands were placed in their hands—flowers trembling slightly, not from fear, but from the weight of meaning.

Veeresh lifted his garland first.

When it touched her shoulders, something inside him bowed.

Poornima returned the gesture, her hands steady, eyes shining—not questioning, not doubting.

Only choosing.

They stood.

The fire crackled softly as they began the seven pheras—each step deliberate, sacred, irreversible.

With every round, Veeresh made his promises silently, not aloud:

I will never break her again.
I will never use love as a weapon.
I will protect her peace before my pride.
I will fight my demons so they never touch her.
I will choose her—even when revenge whispers.
I will heal what I destroyed.
I will love her without fear.

The priest handed him the sindur of Mata.

Veeresh took it with reverence.

His fingers did not hesitate this time.

He smeared the sindur fully across her hairline, not as possession—but as declaration. As devotion. As surrender.

Then came the mangalsutra.

As he tied it around her neck, his hands were firm, certain, unwavering.

The priest blessed them, voice thick with ancient grace.

“May your bond be protected by dharma. May love outlive anger. May truth guide you both.”

Veeresh bowed his head.

“Thank you,” he said quietly—to the priest, to the fire, to the mountains, to the gods who had tested him until he learned.

He turned to Poornima.

No words were enough.

So he leaned in and kissed her cheek—soft, chaste, full of promise.

Not claiming her.

Honouring her.

And the eternal fire burned on, as it always had—
now carrying their story with it.
