Chapter 38: Back to Where Life Waited

Bangalore welcomed them back with its familiar hum—traffic, lights, the quiet weight of routine waiting patiently at the doorstep.

The penthouse felt different this time.

Not heavy.
Not suffocating.
Just… lived in.

Veeresh loosened his watch, glancing around as if seeing the space anew.
“The trip was good,” he said, almost thoughtfully. “We should go there often.”

Poornima looked at him, surprised by how naturally the words came from him now. She nodded, a soft smile forming.
“Yes. We should.”

He leaned down and kissed her—gentle, unhurried. Not claiming. Not demanding. Just present.

“I’ll freshen up,” he said. “It’s been long. I should go to the company.”

She watched him walk away, feeling something unfamiliar yet warm settle in her chest—normalcy. Hope.

When he came out, dressed sharply, back in the world he once ruled, she said quietly,
“All the best, Veer.”

He stopped, turned back, and pecked her lips—brief but certain.
“Be here when I come back.”

“I will,” she replied.

And he left.

Poornima stood by the window for a moment, watching his car disappear into the city. There was no ache this time. No fear clawing at her heart.

She felt… good.

Not because everything was perfect.
But because, for the first time, it felt like they were moving forward—together, not against each other.

And that was enough.
