Chapter: Finding Herself Again

Gayathri’s voice cut through the silence.

“You’re unlucky in everything.”

Poornima heard it clearly—but she didn’t respond. Not a word, not a look. She had learned long ago that silence was sometimes the strongest answer.

Rehan’s chair scraped back sharply.

“Say one more word,” he said coldly, “and I’ll cancel the trip right now.”

Gayathri froze. She looked away, lips pressed tight.

Ravi watched the exchange quietly, a small smile forming. Good, he thought. Some lines should never be crossed.

Poornima walked upstairs without a backward glance.

In the quiet of the room, she sat by the window, breathing slowly.

I’ve stayed away long enough, she thought.
Marriage doesn’t mean I lose myself.

She picked up her bag with purpose.

It’s time to go back to Mannat.

Veeresh entered just then, adjusting his jacket. He walked straight to her, pecked her lips softly, and said, “It’s important. I’ll be late.”

She smiled faintly. “It’s okay.”

She reached up, played gently with his hair for a second—her silent way of saying I understand.

He left for VD.

And she left for herself.

The moment Poornima stepped into Mannat Inn, the familiar sounds and smells wrapped around her like home.

“Ma’am!” the staff exclaimed, surprised and delighted.

She smiled—truly smiled—for the first time that day.

She checked the kitchen, tasted the food, corrected a few things, encouraged her workers. Everything was running smoothly—but it felt better with her there.

From there, she went to Prakriti Inn, walking through the dining area, talking to customers, listening to feedback. Then to Express Inn, where the rush and pace made her laugh softly.

Finally, she visited her dessert and baking unit, watching cakes being frosted, pastries lined up with care.

She felt… grounded.

This is mine, she thought.
This is real.

As she stood there, surrounded by her work, her people, her passion—Poornima felt something settle inside her.

No insults.
No titles.
No inheritance.

Just her—and the life she built with her own hands.
