Chapter 44
The Word She Waited For
Morning sunlight slipped quietly into the room.
woke up first. For a moment, she just watched sleeping beside her — his face calmer than usual, his arm still resting protectively over her belly.
Softly, she leaned forward and kissed his forehead.
Not dramatic.
Not demanding.
Just grateful.
She freshened up, then woke Inayat, helping her brush, comb her hair, and get ready for school. Laughter filled the room as Inayat complained about her tight braids.
Poornima then went back to wake Veeresh.
“Veeresh… it’s morning.”
He opened his eyes slowly. There was no irritation this time. Just a quiet awareness. He nodded and went to freshen up.
When he came out dressed for office, she stepped closer and kissed his cheek — their new unspoken ritual. He didn’t tease her today. He simply looked at her for a second longer before they walked downstairs together.
At the breakfast table, the aroma of poori and channa filled the air — his favorite.
He sat down. Took a bite.
Paused.
Then calmly said, “It’s good, Mom.”
Silence.
Leelavati froze.
Her hands trembled slightly as she looked at him. That one word — Mom — was something she had waited years to hear. Not demanded. Not forced.
Just hoped.
Her eyes filled instantly, but she smiled and said, “Eat more.”
He didn’t look up again. But he didn’t take it back either.
After breakfast, he picked up his keys and left for the company.
The moment the door closed, Leelavati turned toward Poornima.
“Thank you, beta. I waited so long for him to call me that. Today… I feel complete.”
Ajay nodded softly. “Thank you, beta.”
Poornima smiled gently.
“Maa, please don’t thank me. He realized it on his own. Sometimes hearts just need time.”
Leelavati held her hand, emotion overflowing.
In that house, something fragile had healed — not loudly, not dramatically — but deeply.
One line:
Kuch rishton ko bas ek lafz chahiye hota hai… saalon ka intezaar khatam karne ke liye.
