Chapter 55
Trust on Trial
The party hall shimmered with crystal lights and quiet power.
walked in confidently, one hand holding Poornima’s and the other resting protectively near Inayat. He introduced her proudly to his London business partners — not as an obligation, but as his wife.
Poornima spoke politely, gracefully, her saree draped with quiet dignity, her belly visible yet carried with strength.
After greeting everyone, they finally sat down.
“I’ll just come,” she said softly and excused herself to the restroom.
On her way back, a man blocked her path.
His smile was wrong.
His tone worse.
He stepped too close.
When she tried to move, he caught her wrist lightly and whispered something filthy.
Poornima didn’t freeze.
She reacted.
She pushed him away and kicked him hard enough to make him stumble back.
“Stay away from me,” she said firmly.
She walked fast, heart racing, breath uneven, and reached Veeresh.
“Veer…” her voice trembled.
“Yes, Kincsem?” he stood immediately, sensing something off.
Before she could speak properly, police officers entered the hall.
They walked straight toward her.
“We need to take her with us.”
Veeresh’s expression changed instantly.
“Excuse me? Why are you arresting my wife?” his voice was calm but dangerously controlled.
The same man appeared, holding his arm dramatically.
“She misbehaved with me. I just tried to talk and she hit me when I said no.”
Poornima’s eyes widened.
“No… that’s not true,” she said, her voice shaking now.
Tears formed — not because she was weak, but because she didn’t know what would hurt more.
The accusation.
Or the doubt.
She looked at Veeresh.
Not to defend herself loudly.
But to see if he would believe her.
And in that second, her biggest fear wasn’t the police.
It was losing his trust.
One line:
