Chapter 24 – Something Changing

Ravi woke up earlier than usual, the room still quiet, both Gayathri and Inayat asleep beside him. He sat up slowly, careful not to disturb them, and ran a hand through his hair before getting out of bed. It had been a while since he stepped into the gym, and today, without overthinking, he decided to go.

The workout was intense, almost like he was letting out everything he hadn’t processed fully. Sweat, focus, rhythm—it brought him back to something familiar, something controlled. By the time he finished and returned home, his mind felt clearer, his body lighter.

As he walked into the room, adjusting the towel around his neck, he paused.

Gayathri was already awake.

She stood near the window, sunlight falling softly on her, her hair slightly damp after her bath. When she turned and saw him—really saw him—she froze for a second.

Ravi’s shirt was slightly damp, his sleeves pushed up, his posture relaxed but defined after the workout.

Gayathri’s eyes lingered for a moment longer than they should have.

Something shifted.

Not loud.

Not obvious.

But there.

Ravi noticed the way she looked at him—but didn’t say anything.

Gayathri immediately looked away, composing herself. “Ravi… come for breakfast,” she said, keeping her tone normal.

He nodded once. “Yeah.”

She walked out before he could say anything else.

But her mind didn’t stay calm.

Why was I looking at him like that…? she thought, moving toward the kitchen. What was that…?

She tried to brush it off, focusing on arranging the table, calling Inayat, keeping herself occupied.

But the feeling didn’t go away.

Because it wasn’t just about that moment.

It was everything.

The way he handled her.

The way he listened.

The way he didn’t judge.

The way he made her feel…

Safe.

She paused for a second, holding the plate in her hand.

I feel better with him… than I ever did with Rehan…

That thought came quietly.

But it stayed.

Comfortable… happy… safe…

She exhaled slowly.

And he understands…

That realization didn’t scare her.

It didn’t confuse her.

It just… settled somewhere deep.

Upstairs, Ravi changed and came down, his usual calm expression back in place.

Gayathri didn’t look at him the same way again.

At least—

Not openly.

But something had already shifted.

And neither of them said it out loud.
