Chapter 27 – Where We Belong
That night, sleep came easily to both of them.
There were no restless thoughts, no unspoken fears—just a quiet calm that settled between them, something they didn’t question anymore.
The next morning marked something new.
Not just another day—
A return.
They drove back to the mansion together, Inayat chatting in the backseat, Gayathri sitting beside Ravi, her fingers resting lightly over her belly. This time, she wasn’t anxious about stepping into that house again.
She wasn’t the same person who had left.
And somewhere, she knew that.
As the gates opened and the car entered, Devraj was already standing outside.
The moment he saw them, his face lit up.
“Gayu…” he said warmly as she stepped out.
Gayathri smiled softly. “Papa…”
There was no hesitation in her voice.
Devraj’s eyes moved to Ravi for a brief second, and he nodded—understanding more than what was said.
Poornima came running next. “Akka!”
She hugged Gayathri tightly, and Gayathri held her back, this time without breaking.
“I missed you,” Poornima said.
“I’m here now,” Gayathri replied softly.
Veeresh walked in casually, a small grin on his face. “Finally…”
Ravi glanced at him, and Veeresh just nodded as if saying—everything okay?
Ravi didn’t need words.
He just gave a slight look back.
Yes.
After some time downstairs, talking, sitting together, letting the warmth of the house settle again—they went upstairs to their room.
The door closed quietly behind them.
For a moment, neither of them spoke.
Then Ravi stepped closer.
His hand moved gently to her belly, resting there with a small, thoughtful smile.
“It’s growing fast,” he said softly.
Gayathri looked at him, her eyes warm. “Hmm…”
He tilted his head slightly, as if thinking. “Might be a girl.”
She raised an eyebrow playfully. “What if it’s a boy?”
Ravi smirked faintly. “Father instinct.”
Gayathri laughed softly, the sound light and genuine.
“Let’s see,” she said.
Ravi didn’t respond immediately.
He just looked at her.
And then—without overthinking—he leaned in and kissed her.
This time, there was no hesitation.
No confusion.
Just certainty.
Gayathri responded instantly, her hands moving to hold him, her lips meeting his with the same depth, the same emotion they had finally accepted between them.
The kiss wasn’t rushed.
It carried everything they had grown into.
When he pulled back slightly, his gaze softened.
Then he lowered himself a little and placed a gentle kiss on her belly.
Gayathri’s breath hitched faintly at the gesture.
“Remember one thing, Gayu,” he said quietly, his voice steady but warm. “You can talk to me about anything.”
She looked at him, her eyes filled with something deeper now.
“Sure,” she said softly.
There was no doubt left in her voice.
Ravi stood up and pulled her into an embrace.
Gayathri held him back just as tightly.
No fear.
No distance.
Just… belonging.
And this time—
Neither of them felt like they had to let go.
