Chapter 31 – I Came For You

Veeresh stood there, still not convinced, his frustration clear. “What if she believes all this gossip and divorces you, bhai?”

Ravi didn’t even look up immediately. “Not possible.”

Veeresh frowned. “How can you be so sure?”

Ravi’s voice stayed calm. “If she believes it… she’ll ask me.”

There was no doubt in his tone.

No second thought.

Just certainty.

Before anyone could question him further, Ravi picked up his keys and walked out.

“Office?” Veeresh asked.

Ravi didn’t answer.

Because he wasn’t going there.

Gayathri sat near the window of her old room, her phone switched off, her thoughts quieter than expected.

She wasn’t angry.

She wasn’t broken.

She was just… waiting.

Not for answers.

For him.

A faint sound came from the backyard.

She turned slightly.

“Gayu…” his voice came, low but familiar.

Her heart skipped.

Without thinking, she rushed toward the back door and opened it.

Ravi stood there.

Climbing in like it was the most normal thing in the world.

“Ravi…” she breathed.

Before anything else—

She hugged him.

Tightly.

Like she had been holding that moment in since he left.

Ravi didn’t waste a second.

He pulled her closer and kissed her.

Deep.

Certain.

Like he needed to feel that she was right there.

His hand moved to her belly instinctively, holding her steady, grounding both of them in that moment.

“I missed you,” he murmured against her.

“Ravi…” she whispered, her fingers still clutching his shirt.

He pulled back just enough to look at her. “I have no relationship with her.”

Gayathri didn’t even let him finish.

She leaned forward and pecked his lips softly.

“I trust you,” she said.

Ravi stilled.

“You don’t need to explain anything,” she continued, her eyes steady. “I believe you.”

For a moment, he just looked at her.

Then a faint smile appeared.

She added, a little sheepishly, “I signed the divorce papers… wrongly.”

Ravi’s smile deepened slightly. “I know.”

She blinked. “How?”

He didn’t explain.

He didn’t need to.

Instead, he asked softly, “How is my Gayu?”

She smiled faintly, then asked, “How is Innu?”

“She’s waiting for you,” he replied.

That was enough.

Ravi stepped closer, his hand moving to her waist, and lifted her slightly, like it was the most natural thing.

Gayathri laughed softly, holding onto him as he carried her to the bed and laid her down gently.

The moment she settled—

She pulled him back into a hug.

“I missed you,” she whispered against him.

Ravi exhaled softly, resting his forehead against hers. “I missed baby.”

She pulled back and lightly pinched him. “Rude.”

A small smile escaped him. “I missed you… both.”

Her expression softened instantly.

“I was waiting for you yesterday,” she said quietly. “Baby kicked… Innu felt it…”

Ravi’s smile faded slightly, guilt flickering in his eyes.

“I’m sorry,” he said, his voice low. “Because of me… he slapped you.”

Gayathri shook her head gently.

“It’s okay,” she said.

Ravi’s expression tightened. “It’s not okay, Gayu.”

She placed her hand over his, calming him.

“I’m used to it,” she said softly.

That didn’t sit well with him.

Not even a little.

But before he could say anything—

She added, looking straight into his eyes, “You came.”

Silence followed.

Simple words.

But they carried everything.

“That’s what I needed,” she said.

Ravi’s gaze softened.

His hand moved to her cheek gently, his thumb brushing the spot where she was hit.

“I’ll not let it happen again,” he said quietly.

This time—

It wasn’t just a statement.

It was a promise.

Gayathri didn’t argue.

She didn’t question it.

She just leaned into him again, her arms wrapping around him, holding him close.

And Ravi held her back—

Stronger.

Steadier.

Like he wasn’t leaving this time.
