Chapter 11: Words Left Unsaid

Veeresh had called her.

“Poornima, office. The client is asking for you.”

There was a pause.

“I can’t come,” she said softly.

The line went silent.

Then he cut the call.

Poornima stared at her phone, her chest tightening. He didn’t shout, he didn’t argue, but his anger was clear. And it hurt her more than words.

For a few seconds, she didn’t move.

Then she slowly got up.

“I’m going out for some time,” she said to her family, keeping her voice normal.

They didn’t question.

She left.

At the office, Ritwik met her quickly.

“Ma’am, thank you for coming,” he said. “Client already signed… but he wants to change a few things. He asked for your suggestions.”

Poornima nodded. “What changes?”

“Some adjustments in projections,” Ritwik explained. “He’s not confident about long-term allocation.”

She understood immediately. “Okay.”

They went in.

The client greeted her. “Ms. Poornima, sorry to call you again.”

“It’s okay,” she said calmly. “Tell me.”

He explained his doubts.

She listened carefully and then explained everything clearly, adjusting numbers, giving alternatives, showing how to reduce risk and still maintain growth.

Her voice was steady.

Her answers were precise.

The client nodded, satisfied. “Thank you.”

She gave a small nod.

As she turned, she looked at Veeresh.

“Sorry,” she said softly.

He looked at her for a second.

“Okay. Leave now.”

Nothing else.

She nodded and walked out.

She returned to Thakur Bhavan.

No one knew.

No one asked.

And she didn’t tell anything.

That night, her phone buzzed.

Tea.

She quietly went down, prepared it, cleaned everything, and went to his room.

He took the cup and drank.

No words.

Then he lay down, resting his head on her lap.

She started massaging his head gently.

Silence filled the room.

His breathing slowly became steady.

He slept.

Poornima looked at him for a moment, her eyes soft but heavy.

Her fingers didn’t stop.

And slowly, she too fell asleep.
