Chapter 19: Gifts, Gestures, and Quiet Moments
Poornima spent the afternoon cooking lunch, her movements calm and practiced. Lakshmi served everyone with her usual warmth, while Poornima quietly helped, arranging dishes and pouring drinks.
Later, Lakshmi handed her a saree. “Beta, wear this for the muh dikhai ceremony,” she said, her eyes shining with pride. Poornima smiled, touched by the gesture.
By evening, she wore the green saree, keeping her makeup simple. The sindur was slightly smeared, the nuptial chain rested against her neck, and yet she felt radiant.
As she descended, Lakshmi proudly introduced her to everyone. Guests smiled and offered gifts, including Riya, who handed Poornima a small present for her daughter.
Dinner was served. Veeresh appeared shortly after, excused himself to freshen up, and then came down.
“I don’t like puri and chhana,” he said simply.
Poornima smiled. “Veer, your khichdi and aloo fry are ready.”
He gave her a small nod, signaling her to sit. She did, and they ate together quietly. After dinner, she cleared the dishes and went upstairs.
Veeresh followed, his gaze intense. Without a word, he pulled her close and kissed her—deeply, passionately. His hand rested firmly on her waist. She kissed him back, surrendering to the warmth of the moment.
He gently lifted her pallu and tied a delicate waist chain around her, whispering, “Gift for the muh dikhai ceremony.”
Poornima smiled, feeling cherished.
“I forwarded the mail to you. Tomorrow, on time,” he said.
“Yes,” she replied softly, a small laugh escaping her.
Eventually, he lay his head on her lap. Poornima massaged him gently, the intimacy simple yet profound. Slowly, they both drifted off to sleep, hearts light and smiles on their lips.
