Chapter 20: A New Day, A New Beginning
The morning sun filtered softly through the curtains as Poornima woke. She stretched slightly, the familiar heaviness of sleep giving way to quiet anticipation.
After freshening up, she chose a simple saree, intending to wear something comfortable for the office. As she tied it around herself, Veeresh entered the room, his gaze sharp yet affectionate.
“No saree for office,” he said firmly, holding out a neatly folded kurta. “Wear this.”
Poornima paused, looking at him. He smiled faintly, as if he already knew her hesitation. “Go change,” he said.
She obeyed, slipping into the kurta. Only then did she understand his concern—the saree, elegant though it was, would reveal her hip too openly for the office. She smiled at his thoughtfulness and whispered, “Freshen up,” before he went to prepare himself. She neatly laid out his suit for him.
Downstairs, Poornima paused at the pooja room, folding her hands in prayer. The familiar serenity calmed her nerves.
Riya, her mother, noticed her and raised an eyebrow. “Why are you wearing a kurta?” she asked curiously.
Before Poornima could respond, Veeresh’s voice rang from behind. “What is wrong with that?” he asked, his tone firm but calm. “I told her to wear it.”
He walked closer, looking at everyone gathered. “Aunty, she is my wife. She will dress as she wishes. Nobody will control her. I am her husband, and I have no problem with it.”
Lakshmi smiled, pride shining in her eyes. “Beta, have breakfast.”
Veeresh shook his head. “No, I have an important meeting. Poornima, come fast.”
“Okay,” Poornima replied softly, a small smile tugging at her lips. He turned and walked away, leaving a quiet warmth in his wake.
Poornima turned to Lakshmi. “Ma, I’ll pack the boxes and take them to the company.”
Lakshmi nodded, her hands moving quickly and efficiently to help. Together, they packed everything neatly. Poornima felt a mixture of nervousness and excitement—the start of her work life with Veeresh by her side.
Finally, with everything ready, Poornima left for the company, carrying not just boxes, but a newfound confidence and the quiet support of her husband and family.
