Chapter 24: Where Control Became Comfort
She walked into the study quietly.
He was already there, seated with his laptop open, focused.
Before she could say anything—
He pulled her.
Suddenly.
She let out a soft breath as she lost balance and the next moment, she was sitting on his lap.
“Veer…” she said softly, surprised.
He didn’t reply.
Instead, he leaned in and kissed her.
Deep.
Certain.
Holding her in place.
Her fingers instinctively held onto his shoulders, her breath catching as she slowly responded, not pulling away this time.
His hand moved to her waist, his fingers brushing against the waist chain, playing with it absentmindedly.
A small shiver ran through her.
He pulled back slightly, his gaze steady on her.
“What?” he said quietly. “You’re my wife. I have full rights.”
Her cheeks warmed.
Before she could react, he added, softer but just as firm, “And you have full rights on me.”
She looked at him.
Something in her softened completely.
No confusion.
No fear.
Just trust.
“Sit,” he said, adjusting her slightly on his lap. “Until I say get up, you’re not supposed to.”
His tone was the same.
Authoritative.
But now… it didn’t feel like control.
It felt like belonging.
She smiled slightly.
Then slowly wrapped her arms around his neck, resting closer to him.
He turned back to his laptop.
Working.
Typing.
Reading.
As if this was normal.
As if having her on his lap like this… was part of his routine.
Minutes passed.
She stayed there, quiet, her head resting lightly against him.
Her fingers relaxed.
Her breathing slowed.
The warmth of his presence, the steady rhythm of his movements, the quietness of the room—
It all wrapped around her.
Slowly…
Her eyes closed.
She fell asleep.
Right there.
On him.
He noticed.
A faint smile appeared on his face.
He leaned slightly and placed a soft peck on her lips.
Gentle.
Unhurried.
Careful not to wake her.
Then he adjusted her properly, supporting her so she was comfortable on his lap.
One hand steady around her.
The other back on his work.
The laptop screen reflected in his eyes as he continued working.
Focused.
Calm.
And for the first time—
This closeness between them…
Didn’t feel new.
It felt right.
Something quiet was growing between them.
Not rushed.
Not forced.
But steady.
Trust.
And something deeper…
That neither of them needed to say out loud.
