Chapter 39: Chosen Again and Again
He didn’t say anything more.
He just held her.
Then, slowly, he lifted her in his arms.
She looked at him, her fingers instinctively curling around his shirt. “Veer…”
He didn’t respond.
He carried her to their room, steady, like there was no weight in his hands.
As soon as he stepped inside, he closed the door behind him.
There was a quiet in the room.
Not empty.
But full.
He placed her gently on the bed.
Then looked at her.
“Today,” he said, his voice low, “I will show you something.”
She understood.
Her breath caught slightly, her eyes softening but still hesitant.
“Veer… no,” she whispered, not pushing him away, just… unsure.
He smiled.
Not teasing.
Not mocking.
Just knowing.
He moved closer, his hand reaching for hers, holding it firmly, grounding her before anything else.
“Look at me,” he said.
She did.
And whatever hesitation was there… slowly faded.
Because it was him.
Always him.
He leaned in and kissed her.
Not rushed.
Not overwhelming.
Just steady.
Certain.
Like he wasn’t proving anything.
He was reminding her.
His hand moved gently, his touch careful, aware of her, of her emotions, of the way she responded to him.
She didn’t pull away this time.
She didn’t doubt.
She stayed.
Her hands holding onto him, her eyes closing as she let herself feel everything.
Not fear.
Not confusion.
Just him.
Just them.
There was something deeper in the way he held her now.
Less urgency.
More understanding.
As if every moment between them was building something stronger.
Something that didn’t need words.
She rested her forehead against his, her breath uneven but her heart calm.
And in that moment, a thought settled inside her clearly—
He would always choose her.
No matter what.
No matter who stood against them.
He had already shown it.
Again and again.
Her fingers tightened slightly around him, not out of need, but out of certainty.
She felt loved.
Not loudly.
Not perfectly.
But truly.
Slowly, as the night settled around them, she rested against him, her body relaxing, her mind finally at peace.
She fell asleep.
Close to him.
Held by him.
And a few moments later, he followed.
Still holding her the same way—
Like letting go was never an option.
