Chapter 40: The Beginning of More

Days passed… and something beautiful settled into their lives.

Not dramatic.

Not loud.

But steady.

Poornima balanced everything—home, work, him.

Her project turned out to be a complete success. The planning, the execution, the way she handled clients… everything was flawless.

In the office, people started noticing her more.

Not just as someone working under Veeresh—

But as someone capable on her own.

That mattered to her.

And to him.

One evening, Veeresh stood in his cabin, going through the final reports. Ritwik was explaining the closing numbers, but Veeresh’s eyes paused on one section.

Poornima’s work.

A slight nod came from him.

“Good,” he said simply.

Later, when she came in, he looked at her.

“Project closed?” he asked.

“Yes,” she said softly.

“Perfectly?” he added.

She looked at him, a small smile forming. “Always.”

He didn’t smile wide.

But his eyes softened.

That was his way of saying he was proud.

And she understood it.

At home, things had become calmer.

Riya didn’t interfere much anymore.

Lakshmi watched quietly, satisfied.

Poornima had found her place—

Not by force.

But by balance.

One day, she felt something different.

A slight uneasiness.

A change.

She didn’t ignore it.

Instead, she checked.

And when she saw the result—

Her hands trembled slightly.

A soft smile spread across her lips.

She was pregnant.

For a moment, she just sat there.

Processing it.

Feeling it.

A happiness so quiet… yet so overwhelming.

She touched her stomach gently.

“Veer…” she whispered.

She waited for him that night.

Time passed.

It got late.

But she didn’t sleep.

She wanted to tell him herself.

When he finally came, tired but composed, she didn’t say anything immediately.

She went to the kitchen.

Served dinner.

And placed three ladoos on his plate.

He looked at it.

“Poornima,” he said, raising an eyebrow slightly, “I love ladoo… but I can’t eat three.”

She looked at him, unable to stop her smile.

“The baby loves ladoo.”

Silence.

He froze.

“What?” he asked, his voice lower now.

She didn’t repeat it.

She just looked at him.

And that was enough.

It hit him.

His eyes widened slightly.

Then something shifted instantly.

He stood up, walked to her, and lifted her into his arms without a word.

“Veer…” she laughed softly, holding onto him.

He took her straight to the room.

Set her down gently.

And then pulled her close, kissing her deeply, his emotions finally breaking through.

Not controlled.

Not measured.

Just… real.

When he pulled back, his hand moved to her stomach, his touch suddenly softer than ever before.

He bent down and placed a gentle kiss there.

“I’m happy,” he said, his voice quieter now. “We are promoted.”

She laughed softly, her eyes filling with tears.

“Veer…”

He looked at her again.

This time, not just as his wife.

But as something more.

Their happiness wasn’t loud.

It didn’t need to be.

Because in that moment—

Everything they had built together…

Had become something even deeper.

A new beginning.

For both of them.
