Chapter 14: A Simple Date, A Deep Feeling

The ride continued, the night wrapping around them gently, the city lights passing by like silent witnesses to something quietly growing between them.

Poornima leaned slightly forward. “Where are we going?”

Veeresh didn’t turn, but she could hear the smile in his voice. “Dinner date.”

A soft smile spread across her lips.

He parked the Bullet outside a cozy place, not too crowded, not too loud, just warm and inviting.

Getting down, he immediately held her hand, as if it was the most natural thing now.

“Come, Noor.”

They walked inside together.

“Table for?” the waiter asked politely.

Veeresh didn’t even pause. “Mr. and Mrs. Veeresh.”

Poornima looked at him instantly.

He didn’t look back.

“Sir, right side table,” the waiter guided.

She followed him, her fingers still in his, her heart quietly reacting to the simplicity of it all.

No hesitation.

No awkwardness.

Just acceptance.

They sat side by side, not across, close enough that their shoulders almost touched.

Poornima noticed it.

And she liked it.

“What will you have?” he asked casually.

“Anything,” she replied softly.

He ordered a few dishes, remembering her preferences without making it obvious.

They spoke while waiting, simple conversations, no pressure, no past, just small things.

“Your hospital… busy?”

“Hmm… today was hectic.”

“You handled it?”

She nodded. “Yes.”

“I knew,” he said simply.

That made her look at him.

The food arrived, and they began eating, sharing from the same plates again without even realizing it, laughing lightly at small things, the heaviness of their beginning nowhere in sight.

After dinner, soft music began playing in the background.

Veeresh stood up suddenly and extended his hand.

“Come.”

She looked at him. “Dance?”

He raised his brows slightly. “Hmm.”

She hesitated for a second… then placed her hand in his.

He pulled her gently closer, his hand settling on her waist, firm, familiar.

Her hand rested on his shoulder.

The music guided them.

He moved smoothly, confidently, leading her without words.

A slow step.

A turn.

He twirled her gently, her saree flowing around her.

She let out a soft breath, surprised… but smiling.

He pulled her back, closer this time, their bodies almost touching.

Then a slight dip, his arm supporting her securely, his gaze fixed on hers.

Poornima’s breath caught.

He didn’t let go.

Even when they stood straight again, his hand remained on her waist, holding her like she belonged there.

The music slowed.

Everything else faded.

He leaned in slowly, giving her time…

She didn’t step back.

His lips met hers, deep, warm, filled with everything he didn’t say out loud.

Poornima responded, her hand gripping his shoulder slightly, not out of hesitation… but feeling.

When they parted, their foreheads touched lightly.

“Thank you, Noor,” he whispered.

She didn’t say anything.

She just wrapped her arms around him, hugging him firmly, holding him closer than before.

For the first time…

She felt it clearly.

Not confusion.

Not adjustment.

But happiness.

Real.

Cherished.

She pulled back slightly and kissed his forehead softly.

Veeresh closed his eyes for a second, absorbing it.

And in that quiet moment…

They both knew.

This wasn’t just something they were trying.

It was something they were beginning to feel.
