Chapter 39
Veeresh stopped the car in front of his cousin’s house and looked at her once before getting down. “Come,” he said, and Poornima followed him inside, her steps slower, her eyes observing everything quietly. The moment they entered, a small baby sitting on the couch looked straight at Poornima and smiled, wide and instant, as if she recognized something warm in her presence.
Poornima’s expression softened without effort. “What’s her name?” she asked, already moving closer.
“Veda,” Veeresh replied, watching both of them carefully.
The baby stretched her tiny hands toward Poornima, making a soft sound, asking without words, and Poornima didn’t hesitate. “Acha… you want me?” she said gently, lifting her into her arms, and Veda settled against her immediately, comfortable, as if she had always belonged there.
Veeresh noticed that.
Didn’t say anything.
“She likes you,” he said after a moment.
Poornima smiled faintly, adjusting the baby in her arms. “I like her too.”
Ritesh walked in then, looking between them. “So she already chose,” he said with a small laugh.
Veeresh turned to him. “We’ll keep the baby.”
Ritesh raised his brows slightly. “Ask bhabhi once.”
Poornima looked up immediately. “I don’t have a problem,” she said simply, her hand gently patting Veda’s back. “I love babies.”
There was no hesitation in her voice.
Veeresh watched her for a second longer than needed, something unreadable passing through his eyes, before he said, “Let’s go to Raj mansion.”
She nodded. “Okay.”
Veda stayed in her arms, calm, resting against her as if she had already accepted her place, and Poornima didn’t shift her even once while walking out.
Veeresh opened the car door for her, his gaze lingering on the way she held the child so naturally, so effortlessly, before he walked around and got into the driver’s seat.
The engine started.
And this time—
He wasn’t just driving her.
He was taking her into his world.
