Chapter 43: A Moment That Changed Everything

After some time, Poornima slowly opened her eyes.

The pain had reduced.

Her body felt lighter.

But her mind…

It was aware.

Aware of everything that had happened.

She shifted slightly and sat up, adjusting her saree. A faint shyness passed through her, but she hid it quietly, keeping her expression calm.

Beside her, Veeresh stirred and woke up.

The moment he saw her awake, he sat up.

“You are okay?” he asked.

Poornima nodded.

“Yes,” she said softly. “I am sorry… I could not tolerate the pain. I did not know what to do.”

Before she could say anything more, Veeresh pulled her gently toward him.

“That is okay,” he said. “And do not apologise.”

His voice was calm.

Certain.

Then, without overthinking, without hesitation, he leaned forward and kissed her.

Softly.

It was their first kiss after marriage.

Not forced.

Not expected.

Just… natural.

Poornima froze for a brief second.

Then slowly, she responded.

Her lips moved softly against his, hesitant but real.

There was no rush.

No urgency.

Just a quiet connection forming between them.

Veeresh pulled her slightly closer, a small smile appearing on his face as he looked at her.

Poornima lowered her gaze for a moment.

Then she leaned into him and hugged him.

Not lightly.

Firmly.

As if something inside her had finally found a place to rest.

Veeresh wrapped his arms around her in return.

Holding her just as tightly.

For a few seconds,

Nothing else existed.

Mannat, lying beside them, stirred and smiled in her sleep.

Veeresh glanced at her and said softly,

“Mumma ka shona… give some time to me.”

Poornima immediately pulled back slightly and looked at him.

“Hey, stop talking nonsense, Veer,” she said.

Her tone had a softness now.

Something lighter.

Veeresh let out a small breath.

“Okay,” he said.

Then he looked at Mannat.

“You feed her.”

Poornima nodded.

She picked Mannat up gently into her arms and began feeding her.

Her movements were calm again.

Natural again.

But something had changed.

Not loudly.

Not dramatically.

Just enough

To be felt.
