Chapter 53: Growing Life, Growing Love
Time moved forward.
Slowly.
Steadily.
And with every passing day, Poornima’s pregnancy progressed, bringing with it quiet excitement and gentle care into the house.
Ridhima tried.
Again and again.
To create trouble.
To disturb their peace.
But nothing worked.
Because this time, Veeresh was not silent.
And Poornima was not alone.
Their bond had become stronger than anything outside could break.
Days turned into months.
Mannat had started going to school now.
Her tiny bag, her small steps, her constant chatter filling the mornings with life.
“Ammu, I will come first,” she would say proudly.
Poornima would smile and adjust her hair.
“Yes, shona.”
Aryan had moved into third standard.
He had changed.
Grown.
More confident now.
More expressive.
Football still his favorite, his room still filled with dreams of flying and winning.
“Abbu, match today,” he would say.
Veeresh would nod.
“I will come.”
And he did.
No matter how busy he was.
He showed up.
For both of them.
But most of all, he showed up for Poornima.
He took care of her in ways that were quiet but constant.
Hospital visits.
Regular checkups.
Sitting beside her, listening to the doctor carefully, asking questions she would not even think of.
“Is everything normal?” he would ask.
“Yes,” the doctor would reply. “Mother and baby are doing well.”
Those words would ease something inside him every time.
At home, he made sure she did not strain herself.
“Do not lift anything,” he would say.
“Sit.”
“Rest.”
Poornima would sometimes roll her eyes.
“I am not that weak,” she would reply.
But still…
She listened.
Because she knew where it came from.
Care.
Love.
Concern.
At night, he would sit beside her, his hand resting gently on her stomach.
Feeling.
Waiting.
“Kick?” he would ask softly.
Poornima would smile.
“Yes.”
Mannat would climb onto the bed.
“Mumma, baby sleeping?” she would ask.
“Maybe,” Poornima would reply.
Aryan would stand beside them, watching quietly.
A small smile on his face.
And Veeresh…
He would look at all of them.
And feel something he had once lost.
Now returned.
Whole.
Not perfect.
But real.
A family that had been tested.
Broken.
And rebuilt stronger.
And now,
Growing again.
