Chapter 40 Where He Belonged
The room was quiet, wrapped in the calm of a night that finally felt complete.
Veeresh lay in her arms, his head resting against her, his hold around her firm yet gentle, as if he had found the one place where he could truly let go.
Poornima’s fingers moved slowly through his hair, her touch soft, unhurried.
For a man who carried so much outside…
This was where he rested.
Completely.
He leaned closer and pressed a soft kiss on her forehead.
A silent thank you.
A quiet promise.
Poornima smiled, her eyes half closing at the warmth of it.
“I get jealous,” she said softly, almost like a confession.
Veeresh looked up at her slightly, a faint smile forming.
“You can,” he replied.
No teasing.
No dismissal.
Just acceptance.
As if her emotions had a place with him.
Always.
She smiled again, a little wider this time, her hand resting over his.
There was no insecurity in her words.
Only honesty.
The kind he had come to understand and expect from her.
He pulled her a little closer, his eyes finally closing.
And Poornima held him.
Not tightly.
Not possessively.
But protectively.
The silence between them now was not empty.
It was full.
Of understanding.
Of trust.
Of something that had grown quietly, steadily, through every fight, every word, every moment they had shared.
And slowly…
They both drifted into sleep.
Peaceful.
Together.
Exactly where they belonged.
