Chapter 55 Ours, Again
The room felt quiet, but not empty.
It was filled with something unspoken.
A beginning.
Veeresh stood there, watching Poornima look around, taking in a space that had once been hers.
Their space.
Now new to her.
He took a small step forward.
“Poornima…”
She turned toward him immediately.
“Mr Qureshi.”
The way she said it made something soften inside him.
Familiar.
Even now.
He moved closer, slowly, giving her time, giving her space.
Then he leaned forward and kissed her.
Soft.
Gentle.
Careful.
Poornima stilled for a moment.
Her eyes didn’t close immediately.
But she didn’t move away either.
There was something.
A feeling.
A flicker.
She felt it.
But she couldn’t place it.
Couldn’t understand it.
When he pulled back, she looked at him, slightly confused.
“I felt something…” she said honestly. “But I don’t know what.”
Veeresh smiled faintly.
“It’s okay,” he said softly.
“We will create new memories.”
His voice carried calm assurance.
No pressure.
No expectation.
Just patience.
He looked at her, his gaze deep, steady.
“You are mine,” he said quietly.
There was no force in his tone.
Only truth.
“You belong to Veeresh Qureshi.”
He paused for a second, then added,
“And you are Poornima Veeresh Qureshi.”
Poornima raised an eyebrow slightly, a small smile forming.
“Oh… possessive,” she said lightly. “Were you like this before also?”
Veeresh let out a soft breath.
“Yes.”
Then his smile deepened just a little.
“But you were more.”
That made her smile widen slightly.
“Maybe,” she said. “I do feel… something. Like small snippets.”
She paused, her fingers lightly pressing against her temple.
“But when I try to think too much… my head hurts.”
Veeresh’s expression changed instantly.
Concern replaced everything else.
He stepped closer.
“Don’t,” he said gently.
“Don’t pressure yourself.”
His hand moved to hers, holding it softly.
“We have time.”
His voice lowered.
“We will take it slow.”
Poornima looked at him.
There was something in the way he spoke.
Something safe.
She nodded slightly.
“Okay… Mr Qureshi.”
He smiled.
Not because everything was fine.
But because she was trying.
And this time…
He would make sure she never had to go through anything alone.
Again.
