Chapter 35 — Something Is Wrong
Veeresh sat inside the Rathore mansion study room, the atmosphere thick with tension and fake politeness.
Mr. Rathore poured himself a drink calmly while several wedding documents lay open across the table.
“The dates are fixed,” Veeresh said coldly. “Poornima will marry me.”
Mr. Rathore looked unusually calm hearing that.
Too calm.
“That,” he said slowly, “is something we’ll see.”
Veeresh’s eyes narrowed slightly.
Mr. Rathore leaned back comfortably in his chair, almost amused now. “I know very well how to stop this wedding.”
The words immediately sharpened Veeresh’s attention.
“But I won’t.”
Silence.
Veeresh watched him carefully.
Mr. Rathore smiled faintly before taking another sip of his drink. “I’ll make sure she leaves on her own.”
Something about that sentence felt deeply wrong.
“And when she does,” Mr. Rathore continued calmly, “she’ll come back here herself.”
Veeresh’s jaw tightened slightly.
That wasn’t confidence.
That sounded like manipulation.
Or worse—
Control.
“What exactly do you mean by that?” Veeresh asked quietly.
Mr. Rathore only smiled again. “You’ll understand after marriage.”
The answer irritated him instantly.
Because Veeresh suddenly remembered everything again—
Poornima’s panic attacks.
Her memory gaps.
Her fear.
The way she unconsciously obeyed pain like she was trained to endure it.
And suddenly, something inside him screamed that there was far more happening inside this family than physical abuse.
Something darker.
Something hidden carefully for years.
Veeresh stood up slowly, his expression unreadable now.
But inside—
Salvatore Dreewan had already decided one thing.
He needed the truth immediately.
Before Poornima broke completely.
