Chapter 42 — Familiar Silence

Poornima changed into a simple comfortable dress, the heaviness of the wedding attire finally gone. The mansion was quiet now, dim lights casting soft shadows across the hallway outside their room.

Veeresh stood near the bed, watching her carefully.

“Sleep, Poornima.”

She adjusted her hair slightly and shook her head. “I’m not feeling sleepy. You sleep. I’ll sleep after sometime.”

Veeresh didn’t move. “What happened?”

Poornima looked down at the ring on her finger — the evil eye one Mr. Dreewan had given her.

Her fingers traced it unconsciously.

“This ring…” she murmured. “It feels familiar.”

She frowned slightly, trying to focus.

“But nothing is coming into my mind.”

A pause.

Frustration flickered in her eyes for a second before fading again into confusion.

Veeresh watched her closely, his expression tightening slightly.

“Don’t worry,” he said quietly. “Sleep now.”

Poornima looked at him sideways. “You’re being too nice, Salvatore.”

That small line made him pause for a second.

Then, unexpectedly, a faint smile appeared on his face.

“Then complain tomorrow.”

Before she could argue again, Veeresh gently pulled her toward him.

No force.

No urgency.

Just quiet certainty.

Poornima landed against his chest instinctively, her hands resting lightly on his shirt as if her body already knew where it belonged.

She stayed still for a moment… then slowly relaxed.

Her breathing softened.

Her thoughts slowed.

And within minutes, sleep took over completely.

Veeresh didn’t move.

He stayed there, holding her quietly, his hand resting lightly over her back as if anchoring her to peace.

For once, even his restless mind stopped fighting.

Minutes passed.

Then hours.

And eventually, Veeresh also drifted into sleep — still holding her close, as if letting go might disturb something fragile he couldn’t afford to lose.

Outside, the mansion remained silent.

But inside that room, two lives that were once separate… had started learning how to exist as one.
