Chapter 64: Under the Same Sky
The moment Aryan finally fell asleep, Poornima quietly came out of his room.
She had barely taken a few steps when strong arms suddenly lifted her off the ground.
"Thakur ji!"
Veeresh grinned.
"Madam, you will see stars tonight."
Poornima immediately held his shoulder.
"Be easy."
"Nope."
He continued walking toward their room.
"I am taking my revenge."
Poornima laughed.
"Revenge?"
"Yes."
He looked completely serious.
"You took his side."
"He is a child."
"He is a criminal."
"Thakur ji!"
"He threatened to put a frog in my shoes."
Poornima burst into laughter.
"And you still supported him."
Veeresh shook his head dramatically.
"Years of marriage and my own wife betrayed me."
Poornima gently tapped his arm.
"You are impossible."
"And you love me."
Her smile widened immediately.
That answer never changed.
And somehow, she never got tired of hearing it.
Veeresh carried her into their room and closed the door behind them.
For a while, they simply sat together, talking and laughing about Aryan's latest adventures.
About Zara's weekly calls.
About Ajay.
About Rhea's studies.
About the beautiful chaos their family had become.
The years had changed many things.
But not this.
Not the comfort they found in each other's presence.
Not the peace they felt sitting together after a long day.
As the night grew quieter, they held each other close, sharing the warmth and companionship that had become such a natural part of their lives.
There was no need for grand words.
No need for promises.
Their entire life together had already become a promise.
A promise of staying.
Of understanding.
Of choosing each other every day.
Much later, the room fell silent.
Veeresh rested peacefully beside her.
One arm wrapped protectively around her even in sleep.
Poornima turned slightly and looked at him.
At her Thakur ji.
The man who had entered her life when she least expected it.
The man who had never asked her to become someone else.
The man who accepted her scars, her fears, her past, and her heart exactly as they were.
Her eyes softened.
Gently, she leaned forward and kissed his forehead.
Veeresh didn't wake up.
But a faint smile appeared on his face.
As if somewhere in his sleep, he knew.
Poornima smiled too.
Then rested her head against his chest.
Listening to the steady rhythm of his heartbeat.
For a moment she thought about everything.
The betrayal she had survived.
The loneliness.
The fear.
The heartbreak.
And then she thought about everything life had given her afterward.
A family.
A home.
Children who loved her.
Aryan.
And the man sleeping beside her.
Closing her eyes, she silently thanked God.
Not for a perfect life.
But for this life.
A life filled with love, laughter, teasing, understanding, and second chances.
A life where she was cherished.
And with that peaceful thought in her heart, Poornima drifted off to sleep in Veeresh's arms, while the stars shone quietly above Rajgarh.
