Chapter 67: Trust Beyond Words
The afternoon sunlight filtered softly through the curtains as Poornima slowly opened her eyes.
For a few moments, she simply lay there.
Peaceful.
Content.
Happy.
Beside her, Veeresh was still asleep.
His arm rested protectively around her, even in sleep, as though somewhere in his heart he was always making sure she was safe.
A small smile appeared on her face.
"Thakur ji still thinks he is young," she whispered softly to herself.
The smile only grew wider.
She looked at him for a long moment.
The lines on his face.
The silver strands in his hair.
The calm expression that only appeared when he slept.
And her heart filled with warmth.
Because she never felt more complete than when she was beside him.
Not because he completed something missing in her.
But because with him, she never had to hide any part of herself.
She could simply be Poornima.
Nothing more.
Nothing less.
That was enough for him.
And that meant everything to her.
What Poornima treasured most was not the grand gestures.
Not the gifts.
Not even the countless times he told her he loved her.
It was the trust.
The security.
The respect.
Every single day, Veeresh showed her that she mattered.
Her comfort mattered.
Her feelings mattered.
Her choices mattered.
Throughout their marriage, he had always respected her boundaries.
Always asked.
Always listened.
Always waited for her answer.
Never demanding.
Never forcing.
Never assuming.
And because of that, Poornima trusted him completely.
With her fears.
With her heart.
With her future.
She often thought that real love was not measured by how loudly someone claimed to love you.
It was measured by how safe you felt with them.
And with Veeresh, she felt safe.
Completely safe.
There wasn't a single moment when she doubted that he would protect her dignity before anything else.
That security had slowly healed parts of her heart she once thought were broken forever.
She remembered watching him over the years.
The way he spoke to people.
The way he treated women.
The respect he showed to everyone regardless of their background.
His eyes always remained respectful.
His words always carried dignity.
Those little things.
Things most people never noticed.
Those were the things that made her fall deeper in love with him.
Again and again.
Because character revealed itself in small moments.
And Veeresh possessed the kind of character that couldn't be pretended.
He simply was that man.
A good man.
A rare man.
A gem.
Poornima's eyes softened.
Sometimes she wondered how life had brought him back to her after so many years.
And every time she reached the same conclusion.
She was lucky.
Very lucky.
Not because he was perfect.
Neither of them were.
But because he understood her soul.
He had touched her heart long before he ever became her husband.
Long before fate brought them together again.
And now, years later, she loved him more than she had ever imagined possible.
Carefully, not wanting to wake him, she leaned forward.
Then gently pressed a kiss against his lips.
A brief, affectionate peck.
Veeresh stirred slightly but didn't wake up.
A faint smile appeared on his face.
Poornima laughed softly.
Even asleep, he somehow knew.
She brushed her fingers through his hair one last time.
Then quietly got out of bed.
Soon Aryan would return from school.
The haveli would once again be filled with questions, laughter, demands for field visits, and complaints about frogs.
Life would become noisy again.
And she loved every bit of it.
Poornima walked toward the washroom and freshened up.
A little while later, she emerged wearing a beautiful blue saree.
Her hair neatly tied.
A small bindi adorning her forehead.
The mangalsutra resting around her neck.
The sindoor shining softly in her hairline.
She looked at herself in the mirror for a moment.
Then smiled.
Not because of the saree.
Not because of her reflection.
But because her heart felt light.
Peaceful.
Loved.
Outside, the sounds of the haveli were beginning again.
A new day.
A beautiful family.
And a husband who still made her smile after all these years.
Poornima adjusted her saree and stepped out of the room, carrying that quiet happiness with her, ready to welcome another ordinary, wonderful day in the life she had built with Veeresh Thakur.
