Chapter 68: His Place in Her Heart

Poornima stood near the window, gently drying her hair after freshening up.

The blue saree she had worn moved softly with the afternoon breeze coming through the balcony doors.

The room was peaceful.

For a moment she simply enjoyed the quiet.

Then she felt familiar arms wrap around her from behind.

A smile immediately appeared on her face.

Veeresh had woken up.

He rested his chin lightly on her shoulder and held her close.

Then he pressed a gentle kiss against her temple.

Poornima's smile softened.

"Thakur ji..."

He remained silent for a moment.

Simply holding her.

Enjoying her presence.

Then he spoke softly.

"Thank you."

Poornima turned slightly.

"For what?"

Veeresh looked at her.

"For everything."

The warmth in his eyes made her heart melt.

She smiled.

Before she could say anything else, she reminded him,

"Aryan is coming."

The moment Aryan's name came up, Veeresh narrowed his eyes dramatically.

Poornima already knew what was coming.

He gently pinched her waist.

"Thakur ji!"

He shook his head.

"I should be your first."

Poornima tried not to laugh.

"And he comes second."

The complaint sounded so serious that it only made her laugh more.

Veeresh continued,

"But here I need to fight with him for spending time with you."

Poornima's eyes sparkled with amusement.

"And?"

"And for romancing you."

She laughed.

"And?"

"And for kissing you also."

Now she couldn't stop laughing.

Veeresh looked genuinely offended.

"I feel like I am being ignored."

Poornima immediately turned in his arms.

Her eyes filled with affection.

"Thakur ji, don't feel that."

Before he could continue complaining, she gently kissed him.

The kiss instantly silenced him.

A smile appeared on his face.

But instead of letting her move away, he pulled her closer.

Holding her firmly against him.

His forehead rested against hers.

For a few moments neither spoke.

The silence itself carried years of understanding.

Years of trust.

Years of love.

Then Veeresh looked into her eyes.

"I love you, Poons."

The words were simple.

But every time he said them, they carried the same sincerity.

The same depth.

Poornima smiled.

A beautiful smile that had stolen his heart years ago.

"Love you too."

Her hand rested over his heart.

"And I am all yours."

Veeresh smiled immediately.

Not because he doubted her.

But because hearing those words from her always made him happy.

"I know that."

His voice was filled with certainty.

Not possessiveness.

Trust.

The trust they had built together over the years.

He gently kissed her cheek.

Then another.

Poornima closed her eyes briefly.

Feeling completely at peace in his arms.

Then Veeresh's expression softened.

Something thoughtful appearing in his eyes.

"I am sorry for being hard on you."

Poornima immediately looked at him.

There was genuine regret in his voice.

The kind that came from caring deeply.

Her eyes softened.

Without saying a word, she wrapped her arms around him and hugged him tightly.

Veeresh held her back.

Both standing quietly in each other's embrace.

Because sometimes love wasn't in grand declarations.

It was in apologies.

In understanding.

In knowing when the other person was hurting.

In holding each other without needing explanations.

Poornima rested her head against his chest.

Listening to the steady beat of his heart.

The same heart that had protected her.

Respected her.

Loved her.

And Veeresh held her a little closer.

His eyes closing for a moment.

Feeling grateful for the woman in his arms.

Their bond had long moved beyond words.

It was built on trust.

Respect.

Friendship.

And a love that had only grown stronger with time.

For a few peaceful moments, neither moved.

Simply enjoying the comfort of being together.

Until both knew that very soon Aryan would come running into the haveli and once again declare that Poornima belonged only to him.

And that thought alone made both of them smile.
