Chapter 6 – A Forgotten Comfort

The house had fallen silent.

Everyone was asleep after a long day of wedding preparations.

Veeresh suddenly woke up in the middle of the night, feeling thirsty.

Carefully, he got out of bed, poured himself a glass of water, and drank it.

As he turned back, his eyes fell on Poornima.

She was sleeping peacefully, exactly the way she always had—completely still.

A small smile appeared on his face.

He walked closer to the bed and looked at her for a long moment.

Softly, almost to himself, he whispered,

Veeresh: "You still sleep like a dead body."

He chuckled quietly.

His expression softened.

Veeresh: "Don't you miss me, Poons? It's been years... You didn't even ask me how I was."

Without thinking much, he lay down beside her and gently wrapped an arm around her, holding her close.

The familiar warmth brought back memories he had tried to bury.

Within moments, Poornima stirred in her sleep.

She slowly opened her eyes, confused.

Feeling someone beside her, she looked up.

Poornima: "Veer..."

Veeresh smiled faintly.

Veeresh: "Hmm..."

She blinked at him.

Poornima: "What are you doing?"

He closed his eyes again, still holding her gently.

Veeresh: "Sleep... It's been a long time since I slept like this."

Poornima remained still for a few seconds.

She didn't know what to say.

The silence between them wasn't awkward anymore—it was filled with years of memories, pain, and emotions neither of them had ever truly spoken about.

Outside, the night remained quiet, while inside the room, two people who had once shared a lifetime found themselves, for a brief moment, sharing the same peaceful silence again.
