Chapter 18 – A Missing Piece
Veeresh was still holding Poornima when she slowly pulled back.
She looked into his eyes.
Poornima: "Veer... do you remember?"
He frowned.
Veeresh: "What?"
Poornima: "You once told me that Riya was trying to create problems in your life."
Veeresh nodded slowly.
Veeresh: "Yes... I remember telling you that."
Poornima took a deep breath.
Poornima: "Then... maybe she had something to do with all this."
Veeresh's expression turned serious.
He thought for a long moment before shaking his head.
Veeresh: "I don't know, Poons."
He ran a hand through his hair.
Veeresh: "That night... I was severely drunk."
His voice was filled with frustration.
Veeresh: "After Siya's death, I wasn't in my senses."
He closed his eyes briefly.
Veeresh: "I don't remember what happened after that."
He looked at her helplessly.
Veeresh: "I don't remember who had my phone... who came to the house... or how that voice message was sent."
Poornima remained silent.
The pieces were slowly beginning to fit together.
If Veeresh had never sent the message...
If he had never received her calls...
Then someone else might have been responsible for destroying their marriage.
They looked at each other.
For the first time in fifteen years, they weren't looking for someone to blame each other.
They were searching for the truth.
