Chapter 24 – A Promise Renewed
The next morning, the first rays of sunlight streamed through the curtains.
Veeresh opened his eyes and turned towards Poornima.
For a few seconds, he simply watched her sleeping peacefully.
A gentle smile appeared on his face.
Veeresh (softly): "Happy anniversary, Poons."
Almost at the same moment, Poornima opened her eyes.
She looked at him and smiled.
Poornima: "Happy anniversary, Veer."
Neither of them needed to say anything more.
After everything they had discovered the previous day, this anniversary felt less like a celebration and more like a second chance.
They got ready quietly.
Poornima wore the saree Veeresh had given her the previous night. It was simple yet elegant. Veeresh couldn't take his eyes off her.
Veeresh: "You look beautiful."
Poornima smiled shyly.
Poornima: "Thank you."
Without informing anyone else, they decided to visit the temple together early in the morning.
The temple was peaceful.
The sound of the bells echoed through the air as devotees offered their prayers.
Veeresh and Poornima stood side by side before the deity with folded hands.
Both prayed silently.
Poornima thanked God for giving them the truth they had searched for over fifteen years.
Veeresh prayed for only one thing—that they would never be separated by misunderstandings again.
After the prayers, they walked towards the temple priest.
The priest smiled warmly.
Priest: "You've come on your anniversary. May God bless your family."
Veeresh looked at Poornima.
She understood what he was thinking.
Without a word, she gave a small nod.
The priest handed Veeresh a fresh mangalsutra and a small container of vermilion.
Veeresh's hands trembled.
He looked into Poornima's eyes.
Veeresh: "Poons... may I?"
Her eyes filled with tears.
She smiled and nodded.
Poornima: "Yes."
With folded hands and a heart full of gratitude, Veeresh gently tied the mangalsutra around her neck once again.
Then, with utmost respect, he applied a small streak of vermilion in the parting of her hair.
Poornima closed her eyes.
A tear rolled down her cheek.
The priest blessed them.
Priest: "May this bond remain strong forever. May you both live a long and happy married life."
Instinctively, they bent down together and sought the priest's blessings.
As they stood up, Veeresh reached for Poornima's hand.
This time, she didn't let go.
They walked out of the temple side by side.
Outside, the morning breeze was cool and refreshing.
Veeresh looked at her and smiled mischievously.
Veeresh: "Now..."
Poornima raised an eyebrow.
Poornima: "Now what?"
He grinned.
Veeresh: "Now that we're married again..."
He folded his arms dramatically.
Veeresh: "...I'll see what that Pavan does."
Poornima burst into laughter.
Poornima: "Veer!"
He looked completely serious.
Veeresh: "I'm serious."
She laughed even harder.
Poornima: "He's my colleague."
Veeresh: "Good."
Poornima: "He's married."
Veeresh: "Even better."
She shook her head.
Poornima: "He has children."
Veeresh shrugged.
Veeresh: "Doesn't matter. He should know you're my wife."
Poornima gently tapped his arm.
Poornima: "You're impossible."
Veeresh intertwined his fingers with hers.
Veeresh: "Possessive."
He smiled.
Veeresh: "And after waiting fifteen years to get my wife back, I'm not planning to hide it."
Poornima looked at him with a smile that reached her eyes.
For the first time in many years, the weight they had carried was gone.
They left the temple hand in hand—not as two people trying to fix the past, but as husband and wife, ready to build a new future together.
