Chapter 35 – Mehendi Ceremony
The next day, the house transformed once again for the mehendi ceremony.
Green and yellow drapes decorated the courtyard, strings of jasmine hung from the ceiling, and the fragrance of fresh henna filled the air. The mehendi artists had already arrived and were busy preparing their cones as music played in the background.
The women gathered around excitedly while Aradhya sat on a decorated seat, ready for her bridal mehendi.
Veeresh walked over to Poornima and held her hand.
Veeresh: "Poons."
She looked at him.
Poornima: "Yes?"
He looked at the mehendi artists and then back at her.
Veeresh: "I will apply it for you."
She raised an eyebrow.
Veeresh: "You're not getting it done by the mehendi artist."
Poornima smiled.
Poornima: "Okay."
Without caring that the whole family was nearby, Veeresh leaned forward and pecked her lips.
Poornima's eyes widened.
She immediately looked around.
Poornima: "Have some shame!"
Veeresh laughed.
Veeresh: "You know I'm shameless."
Just then, Aradhya called from across the courtyard.
Aradhya: "Mom! Come, get your mehendi done!"
Before Poornima could answer, Veeresh replied,
Veeresh: "She will."
He smiled mischievously.
Veeresh: "Not now. At night."
Everyone nearby looked at him curiously.
Veeresh turned to Poornima.
Veeresh: "I'm going to apply mehendi, Poons."
Poornima smiled and nodded.
Poornima: "Done, Veer."
The family exchanged amused looks as Veeresh proudly walked away, already planning how he would decorate his wife's hands himself, while Poornima could only smile and shake her head at her shameless husband.
