Chapter 51 – A Surprise at the Scan

It was the day of Poornima's scheduled ultrasound scan.

Veeresh and Poornima arrived at the hospital together, holding hands as they walked into the scan room.

Poornima lay down on the examination bed while the sonographer applied the ultrasound gel to her abdomen.

Veeresh stood beside her, holding her hand.

Both of them watched the monitor eagerly.

The doctor moved the ultrasound probe gently and studied the screen.

A smile slowly appeared on the doctor's face.

The doctor looked at Veeresh and chuckled.

Doctor: "Mr. Rajawat..."

Veeresh looked confused.

Veeresh: "Yes, Doctor?"

The doctor laughed softly.

Doctor: "You're still very healthy."

Veeresh blinked.

Veeresh: "Thank you... I think."

Poornima looked from the doctor to Veeresh.

Poornima: "Doctor, what happened?"

The doctor tried to hide another smile.

Instead of answering immediately, the doctor asked,

Doctor: "How many babies are you expecting?"

Poornima answered without hesitation.

Poornima: "One."

Veeresh nodded.

Veeresh: "Of course, one."

The doctor folded their arms with an amused smile.

Doctor: "Well..."

The doctor pointed toward the ultrasound monitor.

Doctor: "It looks like one wasn't the answer."

Both Veeresh and Poornima stared at the screen.

Veeresh: "Doctor... what happened?"

The doctor laughed warmly.

Doctor: "It's like one of those offers..."

The doctor smiled playfully.

Doctor: "'Buy two, get one free.'"

For a second, complete silence filled the room.

Veeresh frowned, trying to understand.

Then his eyes widened.

Veeresh: "Triplets?"

Poornima turned towards the doctor in complete shock.

Poornima: "What?"

The doctor nodded with a smile.

Doctor: "Yes."

Doctor: "You're expecting triplets."

Poornima covered her mouth.

She couldn't believe what she had just heard.

Poornima: "Three...?"

She looked at Veeresh.

Then back at the screen.

Poornima: "Three babies?"

The doctor gently turned the monitor toward them.

Doctor: "See here."

The doctor pointed carefully to the scan.

Doctor: "These are the three gestational sacs, and here are the three tiny heartbeats."

Veeresh stared at the monitor without blinking.

His mouth remained slightly open.

The doctor laughed at his expression.

Doctor: "Mr. Rajawat..."

Veeresh slowly looked up.

Doctor: "A few weeks ago, you told me you were ready for one baby."

The doctor smiled mischievously.

Doctor: "Looks like your family had other plans."

Poornima looked at Veeresh, who was still speechless.

The doctor couldn't resist teasing him.

Doctor: "Congratulations."

Doctor: "You didn't order one."

The doctor chuckled.

Doctor: "You got the deluxe family pack."

Poornima couldn't help laughing through her shock.

Veeresh finally found his voice.

Veeresh: "Doctor..."

He looked at the monitor again.

Veeresh: "Are you absolutely sure?"

The doctor nodded.

Doctor: "Very sure."

Doctor: "Triplet pregnancies are uncommon, but the scan clearly shows three babies."

The doctor smiled kindly.

Doctor: "Because you're carrying triplets, we'll monitor this pregnancy very closely."

The doctor looked at Poornima.

Doctor: "You'll need more frequent check-ups, good nutrition, and plenty of rest."

Then the doctor looked back at Veeresh with another teasing smile.

Doctor: "And Mr. Rajawat..."

Doctor: "Your job has officially become three times harder."

Veeresh laughed in disbelief.

He looked at Poornima, whose eyes were still fixed on the monitor.

Slowly, he reached for her hand.

She looked at him.

Neither of them spoke.

They simply smiled through their tears, trying to absorb the unexpected news that their family was about to grow—not by one little heartbeat, but by three.
