Chapter 44: A Small Victory
Poornima smiled softly after hearing Veeresh's words.
The atmosphere in the room had become much lighter.
Veeresh sat beside her on the sofa and leaned back with a tired sigh.
After a few moments, he smiled to himself.
Poornima noticed.
Poornima: "What is it, Rana Sa?"
Veeresh looked at her.
There was a quiet happiness in his eyes.
Veeresh: "Do you know something?"
She shook her head.
Poornima: "No."
He smiled.
Veeresh: "Today... Yash called me 'Papa.'"
Poornima looked at him in surprise.
Poornima: "Really?"
Veeresh nodded.
Veeresh: "When he called me to the school..."
A faint smile spread across his face as he remembered.
Veeresh: "He said, 'Papa... can you come to school?'"
He laughed softly.
Veeresh: "It was such a simple word."
He lowered his eyes.
Veeresh: "But I hadn't heard it from him with that warmth in a very long time."
Poornima listened quietly.
Veeresh's voice became emotional.
Veeresh: "After the divorce..."
He paused.
Veeresh: "...I grew apart from my children."
He looked out of the window.
Veeresh: "They were hurt."
Veeresh: "I was hurt."
Veeresh: "And somewhere along the way, we stopped talking like a family."
He smiled sadly.
Veeresh: "I always wondered if things would ever become normal again."
There was a moment of silence.
Then he looked back at Poornima.
Veeresh: "But today..."
His smile returned.
Veeresh: "...something changed."
He continued,
Veeresh: "Yash stood up for Aarhan."
"He trusted me enough to call me."
"And he called me 'Papa.'"
Veeresh shook his head gently, almost in disbelief.
Veeresh: "It may seem like a small thing to everyone else..."
He placed a hand over his heart.
Veeresh: "...but for me, it meant everything."
Poornima smiled warmly.
Poornima: "Sometimes the smallest words heal the deepest wounds."
Veeresh nodded.
Veeresh: "Maybe..."
He smiled.
Veeresh: "...everything is slowly falling into place."
Poornima looked at him with quiet confidence.
Poornima: "Not because life has become perfect..."
She continued gently,
Poornima: "...but because all of us are choosing each other, one day at a time."
Veeresh smiled.
For the first time in years, he felt that his family—broken by pain, distance, and misunderstandings—was slowly finding its way back together.
