Chapter 50: A Promise Without Pressure

Veeresh gently held her hand.

She didn't pull away.

Her fingers were cold.

He looked into her tear-filled eyes and spoke softly.

Veeresh: "Poornima..."

She looked at him.

Veeresh: "I can't erase what Shamir did."

She lowered her eyes.

Veeresh: "And I won't tell you to forget it."

His thumb gently brushed over the back of her hand.

Veeresh: "Because pain like that doesn't disappear just because someone says, 'Move on.'"

Poornima listened quietly.

Veeresh: "You asked me what my happiness is."

He smiled faintly.

Veeresh: "My happiness isn't about finding a perfect wife."

She looked at him again.

Veeresh: "It's coming home to a peaceful house."

He continued,

Veeresh: "It's seeing all five children laugh together."

A small smile appeared on his face.

Veeresh: "It's hearing Aarhan call me 'Abbu' and seeing Ayat smile without worrying."

He paused.

Veeresh: "It's watching Yash and Aarav slowly come back to me."

His voice became quieter.

Veeresh: "After my divorce, I lost more than a marriage."

He looked into the night.

Veeresh: "I lost years with my children."

He looked back at her.

Veeresh: "I know what it feels like when a family breaks."

Poornima squeezed his hand unconsciously.

Veeresh continued,

Veeresh: "So no, Poornima..."

Veeresh: "I'm not here to play games with your life."

There was complete sincerity in his voice.

Veeresh: "If one day I have a problem with you..."

He smiled gently.

Veeresh: "...I'll sit in front of you and tell you."

He shook his head.

Veeresh: "I won't disappear."

Veeresh: "I won't hand you papers without a conversation."

Veeresh: "And I will never use your past to hurt you."

Poornima's eyes filled with fresh tears.

Veeresh continued,

Veeresh: "But don't force yourself to trust me tomorrow."

She looked at him, surprised.

Veeresh: "Trust isn't something I want you to give me because we're married."

He smiled softly.

Veeresh: "I want to earn it."

He gently tightened his hold on her hand.

Veeresh: "One day..."

Veeresh: "One conversation at a time."

Veeresh: "One promise kept at a time."

Veeresh: "One ordinary day at a time."

He chuckled lightly.

Veeresh: "And if someday you wake up and realize you're no longer afraid..."

He looked into her eyes.

Veeresh: "...that day will be enough for me."

Poornima couldn't stop the tears anymore.

They weren't tears of fear this time.

They were tears of relief.

She slowly rested her head on his shoulder.

Veeresh didn't say another word.

He simply let her stay there.

Sometimes...

The strongest promise wasn't made with grand declarations.

Sometimes, it was made by quietly staying when someone feared you would leave.
