Chapter 53: A Morning of Small Smiles

The next morning, the first rays of sunlight entered the bedroom.

Poornima slowly opened her eyes.

For a moment, she didn't move.

Then she realized she was resting in Veeresh's arms.

She looked at him.

He was still asleep.

A faint smile appeared on her face.

For the first time in years, she hadn't woken up with fear.

Instead...

She had woken up feeling safe.

Remembering the previous night's conversation, she smiled to herself.

"Talking to him really made my heart feel lighter," she thought.

Carefully, so as not to wake him, she gently moved his arm aside.

She quietly got out of bed and went to freshen up.

A little while later...

Poornima was in the kitchen.

Remembering Aarav's request, she decided to make vegetable biryani, as everyone in the Rathore family was vegetarian.

She carefully chopped the vegetables, added fresh herbs, whole spices, and slow-cooked the rice until the aroma filled the entire house.

She tasted it once.

Then smiled.

"It should be just the way they like it."

Soon, everyone gathered around the dining table.

Mahendra, Mahesh, Veeresh, Yash, Aarav, Ayat, and Aarhan took their seats.

Poornima brought the large serving bowl of steaming vegetable biryani and placed it on the table.

The rich aroma immediately caught everyone's attention.

Aarav: "Mrs. Rathore... this smells amazing!"

Poornima smiled.

She served everyone.

Then she sat beside Veeresh and served herself as well.

Everyone took their first bite.

For a few moments...

There was complete silence.

Then Mahesh smiled.

Mahesh: "Very delicious, beta."

Mahendra nodded happily.

Mahendra: "Excellent."

Aarav looked up immediately.

Aarav: "This is so good!"

Ayat grinned.

Ayat: "Ammi always makes the best biryani."

Aarhan nodded with his mouth full.

Aarhan: "Very tasty!"

Everyone laughed.

Veeresh looked at Poornima.

A small smile appeared on his face.

Veeresh: "Good."

Just one word.

But Poornima understood what it meant.

She smiled back.

She then glanced at Yash.

He hadn't said a single word.

For a moment, she wondered whether he had liked it.

Then she noticed something.

His plate...

Was completely empty.

Without saying anything, Yash quietly picked up the serving spoon and helped himself to a second serving.

Aarav saw him and laughed.

Aarav: "Bhaiya, I thought you weren't hungry."

Yash looked at him calmly.

Yash: "I wasn't."

He took another bite.

Yash: "...until I tasted this."

Everyone at the table smiled.

Aarav immediately served himself another helping too.

Aarav: "Then I'm having seconds as well."

Mahendra laughed heartily.

Mahendra: "Looks like we'll need a bigger vessel next time."

Poornima couldn't stop smiling.

She didn't need compliments.

Seeing empty plates...

Seeing everyone ask for more...

Seeing Ayat and Aarhan eating happily...

And watching the Rathore family enjoy the meal together...

That was enough.

As she looked around the table, she realized that happiness sometimes arrived quietly—

In shared meals, second helpings, and the smiles of the people gathered around them.
