Chapter 57: A Place to Talk

That evening, the four children returned from the fair, laughing and talking about everything they had seen.

Ayat and Aarhan excitedly showed everyone the teddy bear, toy car, and balloons they had brought home.

After freshening up, Yash went to his room.

Aarav followed him.

A little later, Poornima carried a tray with dinner upstairs.

She gently knocked on the door.

Knock... Knock...

Yash: "Come in."

Poornima entered with a warm smile.

Ayat and Aarhan were already sitting on the carpet, telling their brothers about the giant wheel.

She looked at all four children.

Poornima: "So... how was the fair?"

Ayat immediately answered.

Ayat: "It was so much fun, Ammi!"

Aarhan: "Bhaiya and Aarav Bhaiya took us everywhere!"

Poornima smiled.

Then she looked at Yash and Aarav.

Poornima: "And how was it for you both?"

Aarav looked surprised.

He pointed at himself.

Aarav: "You're asking about us too?"

Poornima smiled gently.

Poornima: "Of course."

She laughed softly.

Poornima: "You both went to the fair too, didn't you?"

Aarav grinned.

Aarav: "It was fun."

Yash nodded.

Yash: "Good."

Poornima noticed the surprise on their faces.

She placed the dinner tray on the table.

Then she spoke quietly.

Poornima: "I want to tell you both something."

Yash and Aarav looked at her.

Her voice was calm and sincere.

Poornima: "I'm not trying to replace your mother."

Both brothers listened silently.

Poornima: "She will always be your mother."

She smiled with respect.

Poornima: "She gave birth to you."

Poornima: "She raised you."

Poornima: "Nothing can change that."

Yash's expression softened.

Poornima continued,

Poornima: "I'm not here to take her place."

She looked at both boys.

Poornima: "But if someday..."

She smiled warmly.

Poornima: "...you want someone to talk to..."

Poornima: "...or if you're upset..."

Poornima: "...or even if you just want someone to listen..."

She placed the plates before them.

Poornima: "...my door will always be open."

There was silence in the room.

Aarav looked at Yash.

Yash lowered his eyes for a moment.

Then he looked back at Poornima.

He gave a small nod.

Yash: "Thank you... for saying that."

Poornima smiled.

Poornima: "Now eat before the food gets cold."

Aarav laughed.

Aarav: "Yes, Mrs. Rathore."

Outside the room, Veeresh had paused while walking past.

He had unintentionally heard the conversation.

A quiet smile spread across his face.

Poornima hadn't tried to force a place in his children's lives.

Instead...

She had simply offered them kindness, patience, and a safe place to talk.

Without making a sound, Veeresh smiled to himself and quietly walked away, knowing that some bonds were strongest when they were never forced.
