Chapter 1: The Name Everyone Feared
The grand conference hall of Devraj Industries Headquarters, Jaipur was silent.
More than two hundred board members, investors, and foreign delegates sat waiting.
Every eye turned toward the entrance as the large wooden doors opened.
A man in a perfectly tailored black suit walked in confidently.
He was Veeresh Devraj Singh.
Thirty-eight years old.
Calm.
Powerful.
Unreadable.
People didn't whisper because they admired him.
They whispered because they feared him.
Employee (softly): "Sir has arrived."
Everyone immediately stood up.
Veeresh gave a slight nod before taking his seat beside his father.
At the head of the table sat Devraj Singh, founder and Chairman of Devraj Industries.
His wife Rukmini Singh watched proudly from the side as a special guest.
Veeresh's elder brothers were also present.
Aravind Singh, along with his wife Siya.
Arjun Singh, along with his wife Rajshree.
The meeting began.
Devraj Singh: "Ladies and gentlemen... today our company completes fifty years. Whatever we have built is because of the dedication of every employee."
The hall erupted in applause.
One investor stood up.
Investor: "Mr. Devraj, everyone says your youngest son has become the face of this company. Is it true he handles most of the international negotiations now?"
Devraj smiled proudly.
Devraj Singh: "Yes. I handed over operational authority to Veeresh years ago. I remain Chairman, but every major business decision goes through him."
Again, applause filled the hall.
Veeresh stood up.
Veeresh: "Thank you for trusting me. Devraj Industries will continue to grow. We don't chase competitors."
He paused.
The room became silent.
Veeresh: "Competitors chase us."
The entire hall applauded.
Later that evening...
The Singh family gathered at their ancestral mansion.
Dinner was served.
Rukmini noticed Veeresh was unusually quiet.
Rukmini: "Beta... you hardly touched your food."
Veeresh: "I'm fine, Maa."
Siya: "You're never fine. You work day and night."
Rajshree: "Take a vacation once."
Veeresh smiled faintly.
Veeresh: "Vacations don't increase market value."
Everyone laughed except Devraj.
He knew something was troubling his son.
After dinner...
Devraj was sitting in the garden.
Veeresh walked toward him.
Devraj: "Sit."
Veeresh sat beside his father.
For a few minutes, neither of them spoke.
Finally...
Veeresh: "Dad..."
Devraj: "Hmm?"
Veeresh: "I want to leave Devraj Industries."
Devraj looked at him calmly.
Devraj: "Why?"
Veeresh: "People don't know me."
Devraj: "What do you mean?"
Veeresh: "They know me because I'm your son."
"They respect me because of your name."
"They think everything I achieved belongs to Devraj Industries."
"I don't want that."
"I want to build something that's mine."
Silence.
Only the sound of the fountain echoed through the garden.
Devraj looked into his son's eyes.
He saw determination.
Not arrogance.
Not greed.
Just a dream.
Devraj: "Do you think it will be easy?"
Veeresh: "No."
Devraj: "You may lose everything."
Veeresh: "Then I'll earn it again."
Devraj: "People will compare you with me."
Veeresh: "Let them."
"I'll create my own identity."
Devraj smiled proudly.
He placed his hand on Veeresh's shoulder.
Devraj: "Then go."
"Build your dream."
"But remember one thing."
"No matter how high you rise..."
"Never lose your humanity."
Veeresh nodded.
Veeresh: "I promise."
The next morning...
The entire Singh family gathered.
Rukmini: "You're leaving the company?"
Veeresh: "Not the family, Maa."
"I'm just starting my own journey."
Rukmini hugged him.
Rukmini: "Your father built one empire."
"You build another."
Aravind smiled.
Aravind: "Need investment?"
Veeresh: "No."
Arjun: "Office space?"
Veeresh: "No."
Siya: "At least let us help."
Veeresh smiled.
Veeresh: "If I accept help now... people will never believe I built it myself."
Months turned into years.
A small office became a growing company.
That company became VDS Industries.
People laughed when it started.
Then they competed.
Then they failed.
Soon...
VDS Industries became India's fastest-growing business empire.
Its influence spread into infrastructure, technology, hospitality, renewable energy, logistics, and global investments.
In the business world, one sentence became famous:
"If Veeresh Devraj Singh enters your market... prepare to become second."
Stock markets reacted whenever he made a move.
Rival companies feared his strategies.
International investors waited for his decisions.
He never raised his voice.
He never threatened anyone.
His success alone was enough to make competitors nervous.
One business journalist said during a television interview:
Journalist: "In today's corporate world, there is one name that commands both respect and fear."
"Veeresh Devraj Singh."
Watching the interview from home, Devraj smiled proudly.
Rukmini: "Your son has created history."
Devraj looked at the television with moist eyes.
Devraj: "No."
"He created his own name."
"And that is every father's greatest pride."
But behind Veeresh's success...
Behind the power...
Behind the respect...
He carried a pain that no business victory could erase.
That secret remained buried deep within his heart.
