Chapter 3: An Unexpected Idea
The next morning, sunlight filled the Singh mansion.
Devraj sat in the garden reading the business newspaper while Rukmini poured tea into two cups.
She placed one beside him.
Rukmini: "Your tea."
Devraj: "Thank you."
For a while, both sat quietly.
Then Devraj folded the newspaper and looked at his wife.
Devraj: "How is Poornima?"
Rukmini smiled knowingly.
Rukmini: "Which Poornima?"
Devraj chuckled.
Devraj: "The only Poornima who has argued with our son since school."
Rukmini laughed.
Rukmini: "You mean Poornima Rathore?"
Devraj: "Yes."
Rukmini: "She's doing well."
"She's taking care of her twins."
"They've just turned one."
"She's trying to move on with her life."
Devraj nodded thoughtfully.
He had known Poornima since she was a little girl.
Her parents, Raghav Rathore and Shirisha Rathore, had been Rukmini's closest friends for years.
The two families had celebrated festivals together, attended school functions together, and watched their children grow up.
Unfortunately, life had not been kind to Poornima.
She had married Major Pavan Rathore, an Indian Army officer.
Before he could return home to meet his newborn children...
He was martyred while serving at the border.
He never got the chance to hold his babies.
He never even saw their faces.
The news had shattered both families.
Poornima had remained strong for the sake of her children, but everyone knew how much she had suffered.
Devraj sighed.
Devraj: "Life has tested that girl far more than anyone deserves."
Rukmini nodded.
Rukmini: "She smiles for her children."
"But when she's alone..."
"I can still see the grief in her eyes."
Devraj looked into the distance.
Then suddenly...
A smile appeared on his face.
Rukmini: "What?"
Devraj: "I just thought of something."
Rukmini: "That smile means you're planning something."
Devraj: "Maybe."
Rukmini: "Tell me."
Devraj leaned closer.
Devraj: "Why don't we set up Veeresh and Poornima?"
Rukmini blinked in surprise.
For a few seconds, she simply stared at him.
Then she burst into laughter.
Rukmini: "Are you serious?"
Devraj: "Completely."
Rukmini: "Dev!"
"Those two have been rivals since they were children."
"They fought in school."
"They fought in college."
"If there was a debate competition, they argued."
"If there was a sports day, they competed."
"If there was a cultural event, they challenged each other."
"They never agreed on anything."
Devraj laughed.
Devraj: "Exactly."
Rukmini: "Exactly?"
Devraj: "Do you remember the school principal?"
Rukmini smiled.
Rukmini: "Poor man."
"He spent half his career separating those two."
Both laughed.
Devraj: "And in college?"
Rukmini: "Every festival committee meeting became a battlefield."
"Veeresh would present one idea."
"Poornima would immediately reject it."
"Then she'd present another idea."
"Veeresh would find ten flaws in it."
"They drove everyone crazy."
Devraj shook his head, amused.
Devraj: "But despite all that..."
"They always respected each other's abilities."
Rukmini became thoughtful.
She knew that was true.
Neither Veeresh nor Poornima had ever crossed the line into disrespect.
Their rivalry had always been fierce, but it had also pushed both of them to excel.
Still, she frowned.
Rukmini: "Dev..."
"They've both suffered enough."
"Veeresh carries the pain of losing his family."
"Poornima carries the pain of losing her husband."
"We can't force them into anything."
Devraj nodded.
Devraj: "I'm not talking about forcing them."
"I'm talking about giving fate a chance."
"What if two broken hearts can help each other heal?"
Rukmini looked at him silently.
Rukmini: "Or what if they end up fighting again?"
Devraj smiled mischievously.
Devraj: "Then at least this mansion will be lively."
Rukmini lightly hit his arm.
Rukmini: "You're impossible."
Devraj laughed.
Devraj: "Maybe."
"But I have a feeling."
"Veeresh needs someone who isn't intimidated by him."
"Someone who will challenge him."
"Someone who sees the man behind the powerful businessman."
"And Poornima..."
He paused.
Devraj: "She needs someone who understands what it means to live with loss."
Rukmini looked toward the garden.
A gentle smile slowly appeared on her face.
Rukmini: "If this ever happens..."
"It won't be because of us."
"It will only happen if they choose each other."
Devraj nodded.
Devraj: "Agreed."
Neither of them knew...
That destiny had already begun writing a new chapter for two people who had spent years believing they could never stand on the same side.
