Chapter 5: A Proposal No One Expected

The aroma of freshly baked bread, chocolate, and vanilla filled the air.

In the heart of Jaipur stood one of the city's most loved dessert boutiques—

"Poornima's Oven".

It wasn't just a bakery.

It was an emotion for thousands of customers.

Inside the kitchen...

A woman carefully decorated a three-tier birthday cake.

She wore a simple apron over a pastel kurta, her hair tied into a neat bun.

She smiled warmly at every customer who walked in.

She was Poornima Rathore.

Thirty-three years old.

A widow.

Mother of one-year-old twins.

A Business Graduate, who could have easily joined the Rathore family business.

Instead...

She had followed her passion.

Baking.

Many people questioned her decision.

She simply smiled.

Poornima: "Business isn't only about factories and boardrooms."

"It's about building something people love."

And she had done exactly that.

Her dessert shop had become one of Jaipur's finest.

Meanwhile...

At the grand Rathore Mansion...

The family gathered for lunch.

Poornima's elder brothers, Revanth Rathore and Rohit Rathore, managed the Rathore business empire.

Their wives—

Riya and Aaravi

never liked the fact that Poornima continued living in the family home after Pavan's death.

Whenever she entered the room...

The atmosphere changed.

Riya (under her breath): "She's thirty-three."

"How long is she planning to stay here?"

Aaravi: "She has her own business."

"She can easily buy another house."

Poornima heard every word.

But she didn't react.

She simply picked up her twins and walked away.

She had stopped expecting kindness long ago.

From the balcony, Raghav Rathore had heard everything.

Beside him stood his wife, Shirisha.

Shirisha sighed.

Shirisha: "Did you hear them?"

Raghav nodded.

Raghav: "Every word."

His face darkened.

Raghav: "Our daughter has already suffered enough."

"She shouldn't have to feel unwelcome in her own home."

Shirisha held his hand.

Shirisha: "We'll always stand by her."

Raghav nodded.

Raghav: "Until the day she truly finds happiness."

Just then...

A servant entered.

Servant: "Sir, Mr. Devraj Singh is here."

Raghav's face brightened.

Raghav: "Dev!"

He walked quickly toward the entrance.

The two old friends hugged each other warmly.

Raghav: "You old rascal!"

Devraj: "You're calling me old? Look at your white hair!"

Both burst into laughter.

Shirisha and Savithri, Raghav's younger sister, welcomed Devraj inside.

Tea and snacks were served.

After a few minutes...

Devraj cleared his throat.

Devraj: "I'm here for two reasons."

Raghav: "Go on."

Devraj: "First..."

"My grandson Rahul's birthday is this Saturday."

"The entire family must come."

Shirisha smiled.

Shirisha: "We'll definitely be there."

Savithri: "Rahul will be so happy."

Devraj nodded.

Then his expression became serious.

Devraj: "The second reason..."

He looked directly at Raghav.

Devraj: "I want to set up Veeresh and Poornima."

Silence.

For three full seconds...

No one spoke.

Then—

Raghav: "Have you lost your mind?"

Devraj grinned.

Raghav: "Rascal!"

"You know those two have been fighting since school!"

Devraj laughed loudly.

Devraj: "Asshole!"

"They fought because neither of them ever backed down."

Raghav shook his head.

Raghav: "School..."

"College..."

Every competition turned into a war between them."

Devraj shrugged.

Devraj: "Exactly."

"They're equals."

Raghav leaned back.

Raghav: "You're serious?"

Devraj: "Very."

Raghav sighed deeply.

Raghav: "What if Poornima refuses?"

Devraj: "I'll handle Veeresh."

"You handle your daughter."

Raghav folded his arms.

Raghav: "You really believe this can work?"

Devraj's smile softened.

Devraj: "Both of them know pain."

"Both of them know loneliness."

"They don't need sympathy."

"They need someone who understands."

The room fell silent again.

Then...

Savithri smiled gently.

She looked at Devraj.

Savithri: "Bhaiya..."

"I have complete faith in all of you."

"I know Poornima will be happy with your family."

She paused and smiled knowingly.

Savithri: "But with Veer..."

She laughed softly.

"I'm not sure whether they'll talk..."

"...or start arguing within five minutes."

Everyone laughed.

Devraj smiled confidently.

Devraj: "Let them argue."

"Sometimes the loudest arguments hide the deepest understanding."

He stood up.

Devraj: "Everything will be good."

"I'll take care of the rest."

Raghav looked at his old friend and smiled helplessly.

Raghav: "Fine."

"But if those two start World War Three at Rahul's birthday..."

"I'm blaming you."

Devraj: "Accepted."

The two friends shook hands.

Neither of them realized that one birthday celebration was about to bring together two people whose lives had been shaped by rivalry, heartbreak, and destiny.
