Chapter 32: Good Night, Chudail
The room was quiet.
The twins—Thoshini and Rudraksha, as Veeresh had begun calling them in private—were sleeping peacefully in their cradles.
Poornima adjusted their blankets one last time before turning off the main lights.
Only the bedside lamp remained on.
She turned toward the bed.
Veeresh was already lying down, watching her.
She noticed his gaze.
Poornima: "What?"
A mischievous smile appeared on his face.
Veeresh: "Come here, Chudail."
She walked over and stood beside the bed.
Poornima: "What now, Rakshas?"
He reached out and held her hand.
Looking into her eyes, he said softly,
Veeresh: "You're my wife, Chudail."
Poornima felt her cheeks grow warm.
Trying to hide her embarrassment, she lightly pushed his shoulder.
Poornima: "Enough."
"Go to sleep."
Veeresh laughed.
Just as she turned to lie down on her side of the bed, he gently caught her wrist and pulled her toward him.
She lost her balance and landed beside him.
Poornima: "Veer!"
He smiled innocently.
Veeresh: "What?"
She tried to glare at him, but the corners of her lips lifted into a smile.
Poornima: "You're impossible."
Veeresh: "I know."
For a moment, they simply looked at each other.
Then Poornima shook her head.
Poornima: "Good night, Rakshas."
Veeresh: "Good night, Chudail."
She settled comfortably beside him.
Within minutes, the room was filled with nothing but the peaceful rhythm of their breathing and the soft sounds of the sleeping twins.
The first days of their marriage had been filled with teasing, arguments, laughter, and quiet moments of understanding.
And that night, with their little family safe under one roof, Veeresh and Poornima drifted off to sleep together, ready to face whatever tomorrow would bring.
