Chapter 36: Proud of His Wife
The next afternoon, the corporate event hosted by Arnav Qureshi was in full swing.
Business leaders and guests from different companies had gathered for the event.
Veeresh had also attended as one of the invited guests.
As he entered the venue, Arnav walked towards him with a smile.
Arnav: "Veeresh, thank you for coming."
Veeresh shook his hand.
Veeresh: "Congratulations on the event."
Near the refreshment area, an elegant dessert display had been arranged.
The table featured:
Tea cakes
Colorful macarons
Brownies
Vanilla cupcakes
Strawberry cupcakes
Chocolate cupcakes
Each dessert was neatly labelled and beautifully presented.
Veeresh immediately recognized the style.
A small smile appeared on his face.
He picked up a slice of tea cake first.
After tasting it, he nodded in appreciation.
Next, he tried a macaron.
Then a brownie.
Finally, he sampled the vanilla, strawberry, and chocolate cupcakes.
Every bite tasted exactly as he expected.
Fresh.
Balanced.
Perfectly made.
Unable to stop himself, he took out his phone and sent Poornima a message.
Veeresh (text): Chudail...
The tea cake is perfect.
The macarons are amazing.
The brownies are still my favourite.
And the vanilla, strawberry, and chocolate cupcakes are outstanding.
My wife is the best.
A few seconds later, Poornima's reply appeared.
Poornima (text): Thank you, Rakshas.
Now stop eating everything yourself and let the guests have some too.
Veeresh laughed softly at the message.
Arnav noticed him smiling.
He looked at the nearly empty plate in Veeresh's hand.
Arnav: "Don't finish everything."
"I know they're good."
"But leave some for the rest of us."
Veeresh laughed.
Veeresh: "I'm trying."
Arnav picked up a brownie.
Taking a bite, he nodded appreciatively.
Arnav: "I like her work."
"She's professional."
"The hygiene standards at her dessert shops are excellent."
"The presentation is always consistent."
"And the taste never disappoints."
He smiled.
Arnav: "My nieces and nephews are huge fans of her bakery."
"They keep asking me to bring her brownies whenever I visit Jaipur."
He took another bite.
Arnav: "Personally..."
"The brownie is my favourite."
Veeresh listened quietly.
A sense of pride filled his heart.
He wasn't proud because she was his wife.
He was proud because she had built her reputation through dedication, discipline, and talent.
Looking once more at the dessert table, he smiled to himself.
"She never needed anyone's name to succeed," he thought.
"She created her own."
And for the first time, Veeresh realized that watching people genuinely appreciate Poornima's work made him just as happy as any success of his own.
