Chapter 42: Hope in London
The next morning, the Singh family gathered in the living room before Veeresh and Poornima left for London.
Devraj placed his hand on Veeresh's shoulder.
Devraj: "Veer..."
Veeresh looked at him.
Veeresh: "Yes, Dad?"
Devraj smiled confidently.
Devraj: "You will win."
"I have faith in you."
Veeresh nodded, drawing strength from his father's words.
Veeresh: "Thank you, Dad."
Rukmini hugged Poornima.
Rukmini: "Take care of yourselves."
"And don't worry about anything here."
Poornima smiled.
Poornima: "We will, Maa."
With the twins, Thoshini and Rudraksha, safely settled, the family left for the airport.
On the Flight
Several hours later, they were on their flight to London.
The twins slept peacefully throughout most of the journey.
Veeresh looked out of the window, lost in thought.
Poornima noticed the worry on his face.
She gently placed her hand over his.
Poornima: "Veer..."
He looked at her.
Veeresh: "I hope..."
"I finally get some closure."
Poornima squeezed his hand reassuringly.
Poornima: "You will."
"Whatever happens, you'll face it."
"And you won't be alone."
Veeresh smiled faintly.
Veeresh: "Thank you, Chudail."
London
After landing, they drove to Veeresh's penthouse.
The apartment overlooked the London skyline.
Once inside, Poornima fed the twins and settled them into their travel cots.
Within minutes, both babies were asleep after the long journey.
Just then, the doorbell rang.
Veeresh opened the door.
His lawyer entered with a file.
Lawyer: "Good evening, Mr. Singh."
Veeresh: "Good evening."
They all sat in the living room.
The lawyer opened the case file.
Lawyer: "Tomorrow's hearing will focus on the ongoing custody proceedings."
"We'll present the documents we've prepared."
He explained the legal strategy, the evidence they would rely on, and what questions might arise during the hearing.
Veeresh listened carefully.
When the lawyer finished, there was a brief silence.
Veeresh took a deep breath.
His voice became quieter.
Veeresh: "Sir..."
The lawyer looked up.
Lawyer: "Yes?"
Veeresh: "There's one request."
"I know the court process takes time."
"I know the final decision may not come immediately."
He paused, struggling to keep his emotions in check.
Veeresh: "But..."
"I want to meet Adwait."
"Just once."
"Please."
"If possible, request the court to allow even a brief supervised meeting."
"I don't want to pressure him."
"I just want to see my son."
The lawyer nodded thoughtfully.
Lawyer: "I'll make the request before the court."
"I can't promise it will be granted."
"But I'll present it respectfully."
Veeresh exhaled slowly.
Veeresh: "Thank you."
The lawyer closed the file.
Lawyer: "Get some rest tonight."
"Tomorrow will be an important day."
After the lawyer left, the penthouse fell quiet again.
Veeresh walked to the room where Thoshini and Rudraksha were sleeping.
He looked at his daughter, then his son.
A smile appeared on his face.
Then his thoughts drifted to another little boy thousands of miles away.
Adwait.
Standing beside him, Poornima quietly slipped her hand into his.
Without saying a word, she reminded him that whatever happened in court the next day, he would not have to face it alone.
